They may be overcharging you because they are taking a huge risk tinting your entire front windshield.

Considering your location, $400 may be the going price. A $200 budget job may be worthless. Ask for shop recommendations in the regional forum.

Windshield tint is expensive. I think they charged me $150 or so just for the windshield. $400 does seem a little high though for the side windows and the glass piece in the convertible top.

Where did you go for the quote. Cost of tint also depends on the tint. There are some tints that would double the price of the install.

I got my Z done (coupe) for $200 with 3M (more expensive)

If you're around them...acutint is where I've had anybody I know go. I've had 3 cars tinted and my buddies about another 5. The owner is super cool, and they do a good job.

OH and I'm not even sure places will tint your front, and don't even know why you'd want that.

It also looks like you'll be pulled over in about 3 seconds. This is Cali, we're not even supposed to have the side windows tinted. Tinting the front is like having a NEON sign saying....PULL ME OVER.

$400 is way too high like a few hundred. I got my ZR tinted, sides and glass in soft top for $140 w/ 35%. And why tint the windshield? why not just a 5% visor strip 5% sides, and rear?

how much is a ticket for illegal tint?

Yeah probably not a good idea in Cali...not nearly as big of a problem in Alabama.

$400 seems a bit much to me, I had my 06 coupe tinted for $150 (not including the front winsheild) The tinting guy said it would be an extra $80 for the winshield. The tint shop is called protint, its in temple city on rosemead and broadway. I had 3 cars done by them and all turned out great. Oh and I tinted the winshield on my old car (black rsx type s and got pulled over several times for other things and the cop never said a thing, but its still risky. I didn't like having it tinted, due to decreased visibility at night.

wow thanks for a the replys so fast! ive already had my windsheild done on my last cars and was never hasseled about it once from the po po's...the people who are telling me you can get it done for 130 or 150 is that using 3M tint?? because just using that tint alone is at least 100 extra bucks...maybe $400 is that bad after all i guess seeing that im getting the windsheild done to...

and the shop is called extreme tint...

I've gotten two tickets for illegal tint. It's just a fix-it, but I had to eat the cost of the tint job.

It just doesn't seem worth it to tint a windshield unless you plan on helping it prevent shatter. Crap, all this talk about tint, make me wanna darken mine to like 20%.

You usually aren't stopped initially for illegal tint on the front window (illegal side window tinting is more common)...that usually comes after you're stopped for something else. If you're stopped for something like 35+ in a school zone, reckless endangerment can be tacked on there in addition to speeding. It's kind of an upgrade from whatever charge you're initially going to get...if they spot it.

way too expensive. A reputable tint shop out here in Massachusetts charged me $115 (total) to tint all my windows (excluding windshield).

They used Johnson's Tint Film which is very high quality despite not being offered at many places. The job they did was top notch, and they didn't even charge me to pull the previous tint off.

You can't compare regions. It's like saying we over pay for our houses out here because they are cheaper in Mass. Doesn't work. Just about everything is more expensive out here.

Massachusetts has one of the highest costs of living as well as one of the most expensive housing markets in the country.

http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lis...ata/index.html

I think it is safe for me to say that the OP getting a quote of nearly 4x as much as I paid for in somewhat similar markets is pretty high.

I'm not comparing a tint job in Rural Montana vs. a Tint Job in Beverly Hills.

Theres a shop in Murrieta that is really good and they tint with 3M for about 250 and do a great job they are called VIP TINT. Now on tinting your windshield just dont get in a car accident. I work for a insurance company and this goes for all...If you are in an accident even if its not your fault, your insurance will not cover any damage to your car and the other party(s) car because the of the fact that the winshield was tinted. Which ends up costing your windshield tint way more than the 400 your quoted. Just a little FYI...
