Default Please Help me [Lambo Vertical Door]

I got my 350Z and I'm very satified with it.

but my concern is the door. I wanna change my door to Lambo Vertical

Door.

Some of my friends told me that that's not a good idea in terms of safety.

but I can't understand. Is there anyone who can explain for me?

I really wanna hear you guy's opinion.

If you were in my position, would you change the door?

If so, please give some information about Vertical door kit. (ex. brand name etc)

If you not recommend, may I ask why?

Thank you so much for reading this.

Hav a nice day!

I heard the LSD brand was the best out there, but I also was told that if your car is a daily driver, not to get lambo doors. I heard that you constantly have to get them realigned and they really mess up the paint inside your door jams. There are a few people on this board that do have them, maybe they can give you more insight.

I think LSD doors look good on the Z, but personally would never spend the money to have it done on my Z. I would have to hear some of the downsides before deciding whether or not it would be worth it

In terms of safety, putting vertical door hinges will make your car no more or no less safe than it already is. With vertical hinges, you are still using the same door, and latching it at the same point, so rigidity and structural integrity should not be compromised. Your only concern would be if the installer had to cut any material out beneath the fender to fit the hinge, and in that case, they should be reinforcing it anyway.

I have had them since 6/2004.

Problems:
- hood, fender, and door lines are not all equal.
- requires occasional adjustment
- gas strut broke once
- inner door panel hits roof pillar if not careful
- inferior door close and seal noise.....not a solid sound when closing the doors.
- structural integrety not as good as stock hinges.

Benefits:
- Wow factor and attention

not to discourage you or anything, and for those of you who have lambo doors...i think it looks good and makes the car stand out in car shows and stuff...but since my Z's a daily driven car and just a simple fact that i have yet to see one that opens and closes like the ones on SLR or Murcielago...i'll probably stay away from lambo door conversion kit.

but that's just me and my opinion.

Not my cup of tea but if you do it, be sure that they don't remove the door pin because of fitment. It is a key part of maintaining structural integrity of the car given its a roadster.

i wouldnt recommend it.... my cousin had the lambo conversion kit on his z and removed it after 4 months.... his gas strut broke 6 times while he had it.... i guess the door is just too heavy... oh by the way his car wasnt a daily driver... to me lambo door should stay on lambos.... like other people say and i agree with them... lambo doors are only for show... unless you're building your Z for show its cool i guess... you're better off spending the money on performance parts..... just my 2cents...

besides some of the obvious problems noted in the posts above, it is also one of the most overplayed mods to do to a car.

i agree with the everyone else lambo doors are played out. another possible danger is if you ever flipped your car you wouldn't be able to open the doors.

I never even thought of that. Are vertical doors hawt? Yes, but I still wouldn't do them (for all of the reasons above and more).

If you're looking just do something purely for the bling factor, what about dropping a ton on a body kit or insane custom paint job?

Just a thought.

Ps. If you do and you ever flip your Z, listen to the quote above and make sure to roll it fully so you can pop out of it, dust yourself off and continue.

I have the GT Factory diablo doors, and honestly think the kit is one of the best. It is also the only kit that goes up a full 90 degrees. BUT it requires cutting into the sub-frame, MUST be professionally installed and you need to replace the inside door panels with a trimmed down vent (this prevent the banging and damage you see in the VD, LSD and other kits). I have the CF replacements and have had no problems.

As for safety, no difference (other then the rollover but a lot of times the doors of any car are sufficiently damaged that they might not open. Break the window... ). It is a convertible anyway, you have bigger concerns if the car rolls….

As for whether I think you should do it or not.
IF this is a show car, consider it, but there are many better was to spend that money on car bling that will win you more points
IF you don't show or daily drive the car... do not do this... It is a pain in the butt and draws a lot of unwanted attention.

Just my .02 of course.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hav a nice day!
Ill make this easy for you. I used to work at Vertical Doors INC. they are the original developer of the Vertical Door System. Straight up DONT DO IT! I have seen it all working there every horror story from doors falling off to electrical disasters.
1- Vertical doors require (regardless of what everone else says) trimming of the inner fender lip. That means that one of the mounting points for the fender is gone increasing fender flexibility.
2- Shocks will go bad. From working there and seeing VDI and Other kits the bottom line is that the only thing supporting your door in the up position is a small gas shock designed for a hatchback. Weather also determines shock pressure. Cold weather will decrease pressure in the shock thus limiting its capabilities. Extremely warm weather will increse shock pressure resulting in a shock too strong to open or close. Trust me I couldnt count how many times people called to caomlain about their shocks being bad. We would always say "Its the weather give it a while and youll be ok"
3-Door panel modification. Its true that door panel modification is required otherwise the vent will hit. I have seen people hit this vent on the A-Pillar scratching the vent.
Do it and I guarantee you will take them off after 6 months.

But honestly it's your car, so what ever floats your boat
