Help me pick out some rims - 2006 Silverstone 350z Touring Roadster
Hello,
I'm new to the car, the forums and picking out rims. I've done some looking around and I think I like to go with 19" Volk GT-S rims but I know I like rims with a fat chrome lip. I'm undecided on going with something other then all chrome rims. I'd like to stuff 19x9.5 front and 19x10 in the rear. I read that the stock Z has an offset of 30, I'm not exactly sure how much or little I would need. I have no clue what size tire I would put on these. Mostly I use the car to commute with so something all seasonal. I'm partial to Michelin tires but I know there are other good ones out there.
The wheels would be the cars first mod, so I'm not sure what are the widest rims and tires that will fit without having to shave the tires, roll or lip the fenders or put a suspension kit that includes camber and height adjustments. Suspension mod would be my next step but it’s not in the budget right now. If you guys would make some recommendations, that would be great. Budget right now is $2500 for rims and tires.
It's hard to really tell what color a rim is from all the pictures I've seen on different wheel websites <maybe I just need to go to a local shop just to look> like how dark is hyperblack, and a couple different colors of silver like:

I'm in the same situation as you. I've had my 06 ZR since August and want to do wheels and tires in the spring. Like you, I don't want to roll the fenders and have no plans to drop it, and I want to get the widest 19" wheels and tires that will fit without rubbing. I love the Volks, especially in hyperblack. I'm very interested to hear what others have stuffed in there.

19x8.5 and 19x10.5 is a popular combo. But offset is the big unknown as to how flush the wheel and tire will be with the fender. I've seen 19" wheels range from +20 to +38. Other than seeing a Z with the exact wheels and tires you're considering, is there any way to know?

Someone offered me the wheels of their 05 35th anniv 350z, Volk GTV 19" 9x9.5, 9x10.5 with 2200 miles on them. Asking price is $2700 but I found some on sale for less, I got quoted $170 per tire (new) so it would cost me $3000 for the same setup:

I'm going to offer him $2000 for his rims/tires seeing how they are used. If he doesn't bite then I just might go with new. I'll ask for a test fit before they mount which I guess is the only way I'm going to know if they will rub or not.

i have ppwhite ZR....lowered 1.2" all-around by Tanabe sustec NF210.....
it's rollin' on stagged Axis Matrix.....
20x9 with 245/35/20 Nitto Invo (front).....

Personally I think that the offset of a wheel is almost as important as the wheel styling. I see so many wheels that just don't look right b/c they are set in too far. I think it is well worth the minimal cost to roll the fenders. You are spending $2500 on wheels/tires.. Why not spend another 50-100 to have someone roll the rear fenders so that you can fit a set with a nice offset?
That's just my opinion.
BTW: Those volk wheels are nice, I've seen a few roadsters on here with the same wheels.

with my set-up....sometimes when i make hard turn going into inclined driveway or enterance, the front pass-wheel rubbs a little.....other than that i have no problem driving.......

overall your diameter should not be diff going from a 19" wheel to a 20" wheel. I know my diameter with the 20's is very very close to that of the stock 18's(both with tires of course). I slightly rub on the inner fender liner up front b/c of the width/offset/drop.

My gf and I really liked the Iforged wheels i got for my M, so we got a set for her car as well. I dont really see many Zs with Iforged Daytonas, i have Essens for my M

Those wheels are nice! Never seen them on a Z.
I just got mine polished(had a silver finish before). I love the way they look polished, just a total nightmare to keep looking nice(imagine the lip x 50). I may end up painting the centers to match the car if I get frustrated "trying" to keep them looking nice.
Post a pic of the M with essens. I love that car. I had an E36 M3 back in the day with a set of Kinesis wheels.

Thanks for the pics guys, your cars look great! I think its going to be awhile before I make up my mind. I'm kinda at a crossroads, 5 spoke rims remind me too much of the stock rims.
Six to maybe 10 spokes at the most, I think I like CE28N's but I want something the same color as the car or darker, maybe black like the Time Attack's. I'm still a tad confused about offset. I think +17/+18 will bring me right to the limit, but not allot of rims come with that offset (I know the GTS does). +22 is just a tad under that, but I'm sure that anything under +17/+18 will require widened rear fenders. As I understand it, the lower the number, the more it will stick out fender side of the hub, rather then inner side.
Simple dream which I'm finding out to be allot harder then I thought initally. That dream? Stuff the widest wheels (tires and rims) as possible with the least amount of modifications to the rear fenders.
Can someone speak a little about lipping or rolling the rear fenders? I was looking under the front and rear fenders today and the inner edge seems the same to me (stock). Plus what about the plastic fenderwell?

Don't fret mlesnews! I did research online forever before making a move. The best thing I did to make a decision was found a store within driving distance that had all the Volks, RH, etc... rims on their showroom and brought them out one by one and looked at them up against my car. I bought some that day. The offset question is highly dependent on tire width and rim width. I did 275/35 on a 10.5" rim with +22 offset with no rub, BUT I didn't like the tire looked stretched. With 295/30 on the 10.5" +22 it does rub. The wheel gap is too big so I need to lower the car but I'm not sure if that will change the camber enough to make it miss the fender lip, plus I don't want my camber to be so negative to start wearing unevenly. I need to roll my lip, too.

I looked around for wheels for a long time...didn't want to upset the cars handling in any way, wanted TPS and abslutely no VDC problems...went with Nismos though there are others I really liked too. Here's the view from Starbucks... ...I can stare at the car for a while!!!!!
