I'm thinking of putting the Nismo exhaust on my wife's 2007 roadster, but I read a post from someone that they had removed it due to loud volume when cruising down the freeway at 70+ MPH.

We will be taking this car on road trips of 3 or 4 hundred miles and like to cruise with the top down. I know this is subjective, but do any of you with the Nismo exhaust find it too loud for long hauls?

Nismo is not too loud so don't worry. They are almost the same as your stock. Just a bit louder than stock.

 

its pretty loud (at least it is to me). I'd like to say im gonna get used to it but who knows. I dont like attention (even more so from cops)

 

I recently got mine installed and did notice that it was louder than stock. When I had stock exhaust I could listen to the radio at about "13-15", now I have to turn it up a little. But I hardly use the radio now bec I would rather hear the exhaust!

Sorry I didnt read the title of this post... my car isnt a roadster so it could be louder for the roadsters.

hahaha if anything its not loud enough, put some resonated test pipes on there and itll sound amazing

 

My wife and I both have ZRs; my Borla, considered one of the "quieter" exhausts, is louder than her Nismo. I've also heard both a Stillen and Ingen in person, and both are significantly louder than either the Borla or Nismo. Try going to a local Z club or Z event, and you can listen to your heart's content at all kinds.

 

Ummm...Nismo loud? I guess if you're only comparing to the stock exhaust. Nismo is a bit louder than stock, but definitely nothing outrageous. Can't go wrong with the Nismo IMO. I had it and loved it.

 

Actually, it's an amazing sound. In tunnels and wot, you'll definately hear it.
Top Up, don't really notice anything as much.

 

I have nismo exhaust. It's only loud if you get on the gas pretty hard. Other than that, hardly noticable.

 

I put one on my wife's Roadster with a CAI without telling her I was going to do it. She noticed right away - and not favorably - at first. She likes it now. It has a very nice sound when accelerating.

I'm on the fourth exhaust with my roadster and you have absolutely nothing to worry about with the Nismo noise level.

 

my nismo is too quiet for me i had to add other breathing mods to make it sounds meaner

 

As long as you change out the muffler bearings at a regular interval, the sound won't get too loud.

 

I have the Nismo, and I actually think its too quiet, it just doesnt sound as mean as some of the single exits and the HKS dual. I guess thats because I come from a DSM w/ HKS Carbon Ti. The loudest it gets is between 2k to 3.5k and then engine noise from the intake and what not drowns it out. It adds a sporty tune.

 

I told my friends sister she just needed to press the reset button on her muffler bearing once when her car was acting up and she actually got on the ground under her car and looked for it

ahhh memories!

 

You guys don't know ****, the muffler bearings are sealed so they are maintanance free.

 

Which ones have you had and what have you like the best?

In my experience, mufflers are extremely subjective. I went through 4 different mufflers on my last vehicle searching for the sound I wanted. And the manufacturers aren't much help, either. One man's "not loud" is another man's "WTF...!". The suggestion of attending a meet or GTG is a very good one as it will allow you to listen to actual mufflers on other member's cars. Until muffler manufacturers start listing decibel @ distance and axis measurements under specific engine loads, your ear is the best measurement tool.

I'd say there are 2 variables when you evaluate the sound of a muffler: sound levels and sound quality. Loud isn't always better (if you like loud), and I've heard loud mufflers that sounded like crap. On the other hand, I find the stock muffler nice and quiet but has a really good tone under moderate acceleration. I would never want my ZR to have that lovely fart-can sound that many ricers have. But that's just me.
