How do they justify a $6,000 increase from the hard top enthusiast is beyond me.

34K car with no leather or Brembros 17 inch rims, etc? No way!

I do understand the convertible market is probably more upscale and can afford this car when looking at the other auto's in their product market, but looking at it from a Z enthusiast stand point it doesn't make sense.
s2000 is 32-33k it has less powerfull engine, no brembos, 17 or 18's I can't remember.

Convertible market has always put a markup on the cars. I would be very surprised to see 31k. It is a possibility however.

Default Price premium for the roadster

The audi TT only has a $3K price increase for its convertible. Sure hope Nissan does the same. I'm willing to go to $31k for the enthusiast in a convertible, but not a lot higher. It would be nice if they offered a removable hard top option like they do for the Z4 and the Miata. I'd be willing to pay an extra $1k for that option.

"The FM (Front Mid-ship) platform, used on the 350Z Coupe, is adopted for use in the Z® Roadster. Structural reinforcements were incorporated to strengthen the Z® Roadster unibody, including; a center floor V-shaped cross bar connecting the side sills and a front A-shaped cross bar reinforcing the front end. Additional reinforcement was added at the door openings and a triple-member was added to the seating area connecting the sides to the floor structure to provide enhanced rigidity."

So how much weight will all of this add?

EDIT- I found it, the Roadster will weigh between 3,428 and 3,479... so figure about 200 lbs... not too bad...

The whole design of the Z was based on a double layer floorpan even for the Coupe in order to increase the torsional rigidity of the car...

... hence the visible rear strut brace instead of a standard type rear bulkhead for coupe / hatchback type models...

... that's how they've managed to keep the weight gains to a minimum - I s'pose

$34,000 seem's quite reasonable for the Enthusiast entry level - but there again I am looking at it through English eyes here...

... we always pay a premium in the UK & I'm looking at £ 30,000 for the coupe with my body mods anyway

Enjoy it anyway, but I just love the coupe lines more

The S2000 has 16's but thats ok, since its small they look fine on the car. This one wont have brembo's either. The S2000 has leather standard but no traction contorl, limmited slip etc... Which the 350Z does. Also the S2000 will have better resale value. The Z is deffinitly bigger, which is good for an accident.

Default <--Decided to wait for the vert...

...and after today, I'm glad I did. I've always been interested in the Enthusiast model, but after seeing those ventilated seats are only available in the touring, I'm starting to rethink my decision. Also, I wonder if Nissan will have those "Bose issues" worked out in the 2004s. That in itself may keep me away from the Touring after all...

Josh,

S2000 does have a limited slip diff.........just not traction control.

Until Nissan releases real picing we will not know on the Z.

Heck, for my S2000 I did not know what MSRP would be until the day the car arrived at the dealership ( 9-99 )

At least Nissan has been able to control the gouging on this Z intro.......so far. Let's hope it continues with the roadster as well.

As per Car and Driver, it looks like it's going to be 34K.

Nissan 350Z Roadster
With spring in the air, Nissan fittingly chose the New York show as the venue for the introduction of the 350Z Roadster. Featuring the same powertrain as the coupe—a 3.5-liter 287-horsepower V-6 with a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic—the roadster comes with a fully automated power-operated top (the driver need only undo one latch) that has a glass window and tempered glass wind deflector located between the seats. The top folds neatly under a lightweight tonneau hard cover in 20 seconds. The roadster will be available in Enthusiast and Touring versions when it goes on sale—when else?—this summer, with pricing to open at around $34,000.
