Pretty awesome! But I don't understand some of you guys... why install this permenantly? This would be nice for those harsh winters, but the whole point of the ZR is top down enjoyment when its nice outside. Why the hell did you get a ZR if you wanted a hard top??

wow... are you serious? The new hard-top will be lighter and more attractive. I would imagine many ZR owners will watch the weather report before heading out. s2000, miata and even saturn sky owners have had these for years now. This will fix the current ZR weight issue too. Removing 200+ pounds. Not to mention a carbon fiber removable top would be soooo sick.

you think it will remove 200 lbs? (even with the hardtop on?) plus do u think we will notice a difference with it on/off vs having the the reg drop top?

Yes i'm serious the whole point of a convertible is to have the top down! I know the hard top is lighter and it would be awesome for winter... or, if it is quick and easy to take off I suppose you could do it in the summer too. But to replace the soft top with this and never drive topless again, is just a waste of a convertible. Get a coupe model if you don't want to drive topless.

As for more attractive, that is a judgement call. The soft top is ugly as hell I agree but the only time I have my top up is when its raining or when the temp is below 45 degrees fahrenheit.

To replace the softtop with this hard top, and never take the hard top off, even when its nice is pointless and you bought the wrong car.

But I know all about buying the wrong car, so I have no room to talk.

I think our top uses 5 motors... so those, including the top itself... I could see it easilly hitting 200 pounds. Hell, our seats probably nearly weigh that put together.

Errm... i'm not sure what the hell that is, looks photo-chopped though. Looks like a hatch replacement on a Coupe to me... But if a removable hardtop could be made using the shape of the coupe that'd be pretty sweet. But most aftermarket hardtops are ugly if you ask me. IMO the softtop is uglier but it goes up/down fast so I live with it.

Ya its like a replacemnet for the coupe, but i think that design would look sick if it were for the ZR.

If you look through all the other cars they build this for, you DO NOT remove ANY of the soft top components, thankfully! You just put the top down like normal and then latch the hard top on. So you can drive it all winter with the hard top, and springtime just pop it off and hit the button for your softtop to come back up. But I agree with you...why bother ruining the utility of the roadster by removing all the motors and softtop, just to save a net 100 -150 pounds, instead of getting a coupe instead?

If you wanted i suppose you could remove all the soft top parts to save weight, but Im with you on this one. I live in FLorida and I cant risk gettin caught in a pop up thunderstorm with no way to put my top up when Im out. But from the looks of it (hopefully!) this thing will just attatch like the others, adding maybe 40-60 pounds of weight, look awesome, and FINALLY be able to take it to the track...albeit a bit heavier than most would like, but it would still be a lot of fun.

Keep it alive. I doubt that company is going to do it. But that's just my $0.02

I've still got one in the works but it was put on hold for Iraq. This winter I intend to finish it.

Carbon fiber top would look good, but I think a color matched top would really look sharp. I hope we hear something soon about a hard top. I just don't know if I would get one if it doesn't retain original soft top. I wouldn't mind if we had to get rid of the tonneau cover as long as everything would work fine when we need to put the top up for a surpise storm.

My design replaces the tonneau. It's rediculously heavy for it's size and purpose. I'll reiterate from my early posts, mine is being built with the intention of being a track only car. Weight reduction and c/d.

While I won't be mass producing, I don't see why the top would lose functionality. If I still had it that is.

Right now my tonneau houses the battery and an emergency 12pack.

you some people just want convertible as an option.. they might install it during summer and remove it in winter...
