auto tranny converter lockup
The 5sp auto tranny is supposed to have a lockup feature which eliminates torque converter slippage during steady-state (cruise) conditions. How do you know when the transmission is locked up and when it isnt? At steady cruise (say 65 or so), I can get a 2-300 rpm increase before the speed starts to increase. It seems like, to me, the lockup condition ought to be more obvious. I'm thinking I might be getting better mleage, too. Any experiences here? Thanks in advance....

never mind
I just read about the lock up schedule on the Z auto tranny and it is way more complicated than I ever imagined....And I have a pretty good imagination.

350Z manual lockup info
The 350Z manual, (use the Quick Reference to go to) section C on the transmission/transaxle has a section on the Automatic Transmission. Page 34 gives a table and block diagram of when and how lockup occurs. It employs a computer controlled solenoid valve which allows oil pressure to lock the converter, except it's not as simple as that. Under load or during shifts, it softens the clutch take up to soften the shock. I cannot tell feel when lockup occurs, as I could with some other cars. It is not as straightforward a process as I had originally thought.
Hope that helps...
