Default Sub-woofer panel behind drivers seat...

I have an Enthusiast - so there is no Bose sub. Recently while driving w/the top down - the (blank) panel falls off and hits the back of my seat. Happened once and I didn't think much of it. Now it has happened 2 more times - both in about the past week. Both times I'm doing about 80mph, top down - then I feel 'thump' when it hits the back of my seat.

I've made sure it is properly reattached each time it has fallen off. Anyone had this happen to them? Very strange to me...

Get a better head unit and amp or 2, change out all the bunk NiSSan oem speakers, dynamat the entire void behind the drivers seat that you will use to mount the 10 sub into and lastly get a new cover from the local stealership, about $10.00. The cover says BOSE on it

Does it happen only when you're going fast around a curve?

I have the sub and I feel it sometimes. I think it's body flex causing the seat to rub laterally against the roll bar.

I will look this weekend to see if a seat mount is loose or if there are rub marks.

I also have the Enthusiast Roadster and the same thing used to happen to me. Here's what I did to fix it:

1. Took the cover off.
2. Dynamatted the hell out of the area behind the hole (actually, I used eDead, but you know what I mean).
3. Replaced the stock H/U.
4. Installed an Alpine amp in passenger glove box.
4. Installed a JL 10" subwoofer in stock location (yeah, I did it, and it doesn't suck, contrary to a lot of opinions about the stock location on this forum).
5. Replaced stock cover with Bose subwoofer cover from Courtesy.

The Bose subwoofer cover is different from the cover we originally get with the Enthusiast non-Bose system. It actually has metal clips which lock down much tighter than the plastic crap on the original cover. Before, it was easy to get the cover off - I could do it with my fingers. Now, I have to pry a screwdriver under one of the corners to get the cover off.

Is it in a box? Or free-air?

If free-air, you're stating it sounds as good as or better than the Bose?

Thanks!

I put it in the stock location without a box, so it's free-air. I didn't have the Bose in my ZR, but compared to the Boses I've heard in other ZRs (and in my dead RX-8), I think my setup sounds better. That probably a combined result of the new H/U, amp, etc., though.

All I did was basically close in the entire area in the stock location (there is a lot of space back there, and there are a lot of holes to other areas of the car) with the eDead in a double layer. I also covered the stock mounting bracket before mounting the sub. Since there's no box, this is technically a free-air setup, but I think the eDead probably helps quite a bit since I closed in that area. I guess I could've tested that prior to the eDead, but oh well....

OK, so it's somewhat of an enclosed space. That probably helps with the overall sound & quality, not to mention you have a much better speaker (and HU/amp) to work with.

I'm going to have to give that a try one of these days.

Thanks!

Sounds like a good idea, the sad thing about Bose is that its so highly rated everywhere then kind of a let down in the bass department. The clarity of the system is good though.

A lot of people say changing out the HU is the first step to a better sounding system. I also wish the stock system played mp3's. Other than that those are my two gripes.
