Default Roadster top rubbing paint on body (not)

A while back there was a thread about weather the rear of the roadster top seals against the body (it did on the roadster I looked at) and if it would rub the pait where it touched.

Well I just looked at another roadster and on the rear boot (the one that covers the top when it is down) there is a strip of "clear bra" like material where the top hits the paint! It seems to me this would be plenty to prevent paint rubbing.

Just thought I would pass that along.

Yeah I think I started that thread, but that was before I saw a roadster up close and personal-like. Near the end of that thread I reported that there was a strip of thick tape that the top seals against. You can hardly tell that it's there. I speculated that there must be something like this or the paint would wear.

I was speculating while having less than perfect facts. Thinking with my hands on the keyboard. I should learn not to do that, it gets me in trouble sometimes. Especially when my boss takes everything that comes out of my mouth as gospel.

yeah, and i still say that the top doesnt completely seal on the back. still trying to figure out a way to stick a thicker piece of rubber seal so that it seats better and blocks out the bit of outside noise that gets inside.

not worried anymore about the water getting in the cabin, because it doesnt. but i cant understand why if they have that clear bra material, they cannot make it seal completely.

Maybe there is an adjustment for how low it comes down?

Anyone got the shop manual for the roadster yet?

Default Top not Seal in Back Completely?

I did not know you could drive the car with the top up.

Ummm - Maybe I should try that soon.

Ragtopz,
My top seals fine. The hole in the rear deck is for a latch to pull the top down against the deck. Have your dealer check, maybe that can be adjusted to bring the seal to the deck.
Just a thought.

thanks zz-notop and andyb,

i guess i will have the dealer take a look at it. not sure when i will get around to it, though. not too much free time. if my top is faulty, it would be nice to have it fixed though and for it to be quieter in the cabin.... although is pretty quiet as it is now.

When I look at the rear seal from the inside the light that comes through is not caused be not sealing. It is light coming through the clear bra material. Unless yours is leaking water, then that would be a sealing problem. Good luck and aloha.

Gary, the clear bra material is in fact....(wait for it)...... clear.

It is a clear plastic sheet. That is why an installer can install it on any car. Being clear the color is always a good match.
