I think the 350ZR just has both a poor top and a poor top mechanism design.

"My" car is getting its 4th top put on this week - at 57K miles! I sold it to the dealer yesterday, so I'm not paying for it, but I've never heard of a convertible that goes through so many tops in such a short period of time.

Here are the usual complaints regarding top problems - just in case you didn't find them during your search:

Good Luck!

Default Tear in Top

I purchased my 2004 Roadster in October 2004. When I purchased the vehicle I also purchased the Security + Gold Preferred warranty program for 5 years, 60,000 miles.

In 2007 I noticed that there were tears developing just slightly to the lower left and lower right of the window. By the time I got to the dealer, the standard 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty had expired and Nissan told me that torn canvas was not covered under the extended warranty plan. I appealed to Nissan USA and got a curt phone call saying the top was my problem, have a nice day

I paid $1,800 for a new top. I can guarantee you that Nissan has received the last dime they're going to get from me, my family or any friends I can influence. They saved $1,800 but lost a customer forever.

Same problem. And Nissan Consumer Affairs or whatever they call themselves was the WORST. Have 2004 Roadster also wth 35,000 miles on it and no one would do anything. Worst customer service I have ever seen. This was our 7 Nissan and it will be our last one. You would think with all these top issues they would do something, but they are cheap and losig money so they don't care. Hope they go under and loose lots of money.

Hey man, I feel your pain. It's pure BS coming from Nissan!
A lot of guys think that getting a warranty...it would cover the top costs but it dosen't. I found that out when I inquired about a warranty after my first top was replaced. BTW the replacement top is guaranteed for a full year & afterwards it's not.

Getting back to what Kombat King said....my neighbor has a vert that is 12 years old and absolutely no problems at all with the top, material or mechanical.

Well, im having issues with my tranny now, however Nissan North America has felt that's it's cheaper to give me a new top than a tranny. Nissan's have really lost their reliability.

I had the same issue. It's from the canvas scraping against the metal support rod for the rear window. Get it replaced under warranty by Nissan and bend the two rods inwards towards the center so it rides on the glass and not the canvas. Also cover it with like felt or something soft or else it will do it again.
