Any easy/reliable way to repair pinholes?
I'm looking at two different 2004 ZRs from two different dealers.
One of them is actually 4 hours away from me in my hometown. One of them is where I live right now. I'm basically ready to buy one of these babies. The price is reasonable on both...the both have enough of the features I want, both drive very well.
But the one where I live now, the one that would be easier to buy, has two little pinholes in the top in the upper corners, towards the back, fairly near the windshield. They are in a symmetrical pattern, so I would suspect that wear from the top mechanism is involved somehow.
The dealer just got the car fairly recently and he was talking about taking it to some upholstery place and having them sew a couple of stitches and put in some fabric glue. Will this really work and be a decent medium-term fix?
In fact, the price on the car is a post-fix price, so I could get it cheaper if I buy it as-is, I'm sure.
But for some reason, I am very scared of this. Should I be scared? The holes look like little cuts and they are about 1/4" to 3/8" long...as I said, one on each side. I'm sure it would leak a little bit (they keep it inside) and it definitely affected road noise quite a bit more than I thought it would. From the inside, you can see tiny bits of daylight.
Thanks for any thoughts.

I bought an 05' back in January with the same holes that your posting about. I live in Houston so my top is up and down all day. The holes grew very quickly (about 2 months). I reapaired them and that lasted another month or so before the top began to tear on either side of the back window. From the info that I have gathered, the OEM top only last about 5yrs before it begins to tear. I replaced mine with the Robbins cloth top wich cost about $750. It is a much better top than the vinyl. I installed it myself using the instructions on this forum. If I were you, I would try and get the car discounted and have the top replaced.

If your in New York your not dropping your top year round. Down here we drop our top December thru March too. Durring the summer it is 90 to 100 degrees most of the day. The sun dries out the top alot faster.
