Default Does anyone have a 2006 MT without oil consumption issues?

I am looking to buy a Z roadster very soon. I have seen the threads on the oil consumption issue. I have a lead on a 2006 with everythings I like (vented seats, nav, brembros) with 30K miles but I don't want to deal with this engine issue. I know forums blow up small problems and make them look like big problems because only the ones with problems post up. I am only looking at a manual transmission.

I could also buy some 04-05's that I have seen and I will not have to worry, but I like some of the features of the 2006+car.

I would entertain 2007 models as well but I have not seen one yet that has the vented orange seats-did they drop that option in 2007?

If you were looking would you avoid an 06?

Thanks for the help.

Correct. My transmission is fantastic and My car does not consume oil are not popular subjects. The Squeeky wheel gets the grease.

So how do you get though the hype and emotion to find objective reliability data? Well you don't here. Check Consumer Reports.

OP you're right about forums blowing some issues out of proportion. But my 06 does not consume and has 31k on it Had it since 18k.

I assume you have a Manual trans? If so that makes me feel better. Pretty much any 06 I buy will be under the powertrain warranty still.

Still can't find those vented seats on anything after 2006.

I have an '06 and have no oil consumption issues. I bought it at 10K and am now just shy of 60K. I think there is a manufacture date to stay away from for the '06 model. I can't remember the dates exactly, but I think if the date was from Feb '06 to May '06, then you're going to have issues. Go here, and happy reading.

I am a little picky on options. I have narrowed it down to Grey/Silver with orange ventilated seats, MT, GPS. That means touring or grand touring 06. I have not found a 07 with MT and ventilated seats. Brembo is not required but the ones I have seen have them (grand touring). I almost had a heart attach when we were picking up our Murano today from Nissan service and I asked the Service Advisor about replacing pads and rotors on the fronts for Brembo ($1600). I see I can get aftermarket rotors and pads for th price of one Nissan Brembo rotor so now I have calmed down.

I had one 06 get away from me, I am second in line. The second one is high priced and service history shows an oil consuption test. The third is still in discussion, all of these are over 1,000 miles away since I am so specific with options/equipment. But hey a fly and drive is like a mini vacation, at least I really enjoyed it when I purchased my street bike several states away. I am still looking, 2007 is not out of the question but I find nothing with the orange vented leather seats.

My service advisor says don't worry about an oil consuming engine because he would love to replace one under the powertrain warranty. He said it is a 7K job and it pays him nicely.

Ok, hopefully by the 3 2006 owners that do not have the oil consumption problem that answered this thread I will be ok. All the various service advisors I talked to when checking out cars said it was not common at all.

Anyways I picked up a 2006 silverstone touring roadster with the orange vented seats. The only thing is does not have is Nav and Brembo's, so I assume that makes it the touring roadster. The Mercedes dealership that sold it to me had it listed as a grand touring. Its in real good shape, no paintwork (many I looked at had been painted at some point) and interior is very clean.

One thing I find interesting is that I drove several 04-05's and a few 06's. The 05's I drove felt faster than the 06's, even though the 06's have 13 more HP. I am assuming the lower torque numbers is what I am feeling. I know for sure though that I like the interior of the 06 much better than the 04-05's.

Congrats on the purchase! I've got an '06 grand touring roadster with the manual trans...I've been wondering about oil consumption just like you...Got mine on the 31st of August and only added 300 miles to her 16.3k, so I can't tell you yet.

Enjoy the ride!

I have put about 600 on it in the 4 days of ownership so far. I checked the oil and it looks like the same level when I purchased it, but it has only been 600 miles. I will check it again later and hope the problem is overblown.

Love the car, its a lot of fun to drive. Its really a second car as I kept my truck as well, but I am driving it everyday for a while for sure.

I am sure you are enjoying yours as well.

No oil consumption issues with my 2006 Touring Roadster either - I bought it last fall with 44K miles and put another 4 or 5 on it since then.

"Problems" I have seen but aren't worth making a stink about:

1) Although it sounds like some sort of valve knock, the sound I was hearing was actually the "Fuel Dampners". Under power it almost sounds like the knocking you hear on the water pipes in your house - which is why the 350Z has something in the lines to absorb that knock. On mine you can still hear a bit of the knocking noise, but it has no impact on performance.

2) First gear sounded a bit loud to me, even coasting with the clutch disengaged. My guess is that it would have been just fine, but the dealership decided to change it out since it was sold as certified used.

3) One of the rear shocks was leaking. I'm going to guess that with the high miles it saw a lot of highway use, and the highways around here are horrendous for the harmonic rocking they create if you drive certain speeds, so I don't blame that on the design.

Hopefully you're enjoying your roadster. Driving topless in a Z is the best!

I have an '06 Roadster and I have no oil issues. Got it brand new with only 30 miles since June '07, and now it's about to hit 30k miles. I've done regular oil changes at 3,000 miles and recently drove from Florida to California and not only was it the best ride ever... Gas consumption was great.

SHHHH! Don't tell all the '06 haters...

I find it amazing that no matter what brand vehicle, that if one car has it...then everybody has to have it. The camaro boards were awash with people just SURE their automatic V-8 car was slow just because a couple of the other cars had an issue! Its the same thing here with '06 and oil consumption it seems! I guess car nuts are car nuts no matter the brand! If you love a car, you get invested in it and everything that relates to it.

Good Evening All,

I have read that 200 page thread, as I too am on the fence of purchasing a 2006 Enthusiast A/T. Is that oil consumption issue on all 2006's? or is it allegedly on the M/T version?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Allen
