Default Cloth or Vinyl top?

If you guys had to choose a replacement material would you choose cloth or vinyl like our OEM I believe. If we don't hear anything about a hard top soon I'm going to replace my top in the next month or so.

I can't really understand what your trying to type???

If your talking about using CF cloth on your roof, then that might not be a good idea....

Yeah I'm waiting on the Smoothline hard top as well, supposed to come out in Spring of 2010.

+1 on the top question, has anyone tried the Haartz or any other type of replacement material? Does it hold up better?

I think the cloth top looks better and is a bit more durable. My buddy has a C5 Vette roadster and it has a cloth top.. I would love to get that Hard top too but can't wait any longer. I'm having my NEW OEM top put in as we speak.....

Spoke to the tech that was installing my new top. He told me that the OEM top is the best to use. He change 5 aftermarket tops before he changes 1 OEM top. He said it's all in the seams. OEM has a better reenforcement that doesn"t rip that easy.
He also felt cloth tops wear quicker. I thought the opposite.

I'm just happy my car will be whole again and it will now look good again top up or top down....

This top I was looking at is a cloth replacement with a 5 year warranty. I also could go with the OEM material for a little cheaper. That is why I was wondering. I thought cloth would be the way to go until you heard some negative about it.

Ron where did you find your OEM top? How much is the install going to run? I want to get my top ordered in the next couple weeks.

TittieZ I don't want to wait for the hard top to come out either. Although I have a feeling its going to be really good looking. Something to shoot for later on I guess.

I replaced my top with the stayfast cloth top about 6 months ago. It looks alot better and is more durable than the OEM. The problem I had with my OEM top wasn't the seams. It was next to the seams where the tears and holes began. Logic tells me that a seam is easier to repair than a hole or tear.

Shilow do you have any pics of your ZR that you can post or email me? How dark black is their top? I have an option to buy a stayfast cloth top for around 550 shipped with 5 year warranty. I just want to make sure it won't fade fast and material was good.

I can't send you any close up pics because I fried my camera last week. I assure you the stayfast cloth top looks better than the OEM. It is dark black, and the fit is snug. The cloth is the type that is ussually on more expensive cars. I purchased my top from topsonline.com for $729 and installed it myself using the direction from this forum. It took me around 5 hours with no experience. good luck

I was unemployed at the time I installed my top. I'm working 65 hrs/wk now. I also have a 2 month old now so I have no time. I got qoutes around here from 500 to 350. I decided to give it a try and if I failed I figured I could get a discount for having it partially completed. I was able to get it done in around 5 hours. Thats with a couple of runs to the hardware store for more double sided tape and rivets.

I had the OEM top, and now the cloth top.

The OEM top does seem more durable. However, once it rips, it just rips in a straight line and rips faster than a cloth top. I DON'T BELIEVE the vinyl is not interweaved like the cloth top is.

The cloth top looks a lot better. But it does seem to rip easier. But if it rips, it takes longer to rip because the cloth is more interviewed than the vinyl top. On the top (outside part), I think it's rubbing on the 2nd and 3rd bows, so I see the cloth coming rubbing apart (hard to explain).

For me, the vinyl top took longer to rip, while the cloth top is already ripping in some places. Passenger side, top left. On top rubbing on the 2nd and 3rd bow. I can tell it's rubbing evenly because there are signs of it on both the top right and left.
