Default prepared for fight with dealer over hole in soft top

i took my car in for service because of a hole in my soft top which apparently, according to other members here, was caused by the top mechanism pinching the material.

i showed the service advisor and was ready to get all defensive if he said i couldn't prove it was from the mechanism. to my surprise, he told me that they didnt have any in stock and that they would have to special order the part. we went to his desk and he ordered the part as i waited. he told me it would take about 2 weeks for the part to come in and they would contact me when it did.

well, i was blown away. i didnt expect it to be that easy. i guess they must have had other cases with the same problem. i was going to ask him, but i guess i will after i get my new top installed.

needless to say, i am very happy and relieved at the moment. now to see if they will follow through.

They probably knew about this problem because dealers are NEVER nice for no reason. Thats cool that your getting it covered free of charge.

that is what i figure too. they must dealt with a few complaints already and now they know what to do about it. if that is the case, then i am glad that i wasnt the first one who went to them with that problem. must have been a big hassle for that person. i dont believe there is a tsb yet, but could be mistaken.

I believe I was the first person with the problem and I had the same experience. It took Nissan's engineers awhile to figure out what they wanted to do about the pinhole in my top, but they finally decided to replace the top. No hassles, whatsoever, from the dealer or Nissan Corp. Cost them $4,400.00 to replace the top according to my invoice.

yeah 350zroadster04 i think you very well may be the first one with that problem. did you ever find out why they had to break off your roll bar covers? i wonder if my dealer is going to do that too? the two dont seem to be connected.

Nope. Still no idea why they had to break off the rollbar covers. One thing happened as a result, though. Somehow, they scratched the back of my new passenger rollbar cover pretty bad, so they are replacing it. The part is on backorder, so I've been waiting a few weeks. They also put a tiny hole in the top of the passenger side door panel. They will replace the door panel too (also on backorder).

Nissan has an award called the "owner first award of excellence" this is given in both sales and service. In order to receive this award you must be "nice" to customers because they determine the award. We aren't all bad if you're ever my way stop in for some southern hospitality.

Default Roll bar covers

The roll bar covers are "disposable". The service manual shows them with an "X" which means "replace after removal".

The real question is WHY couldn't Nissan make them re-usable? This seems very lame to me. I will have to remove them to do my stereo install. I am going to TRY and preserve them. But I think the problem is that the latching tabs snap off.

Why Nissan?!?!? Why!?!?!? Why!?!??!?

I'd love to see some aftermarket rollbar covers. Maybe Chrome Tube style. I should Pshop that in to see what it looks like from behind..

well i know my dealer has some national volume sales award. dont know if they won anything for the way they treat their customers.
hmm.... today is the 2 week mark. if the dont call today, i will give them a call on monday to see what is up with the soft top. i think i would faint if they actually called me first with an update.

paul, as long as those chrome rollbar covers were able to hold the windblocker in place. wouldnt be worth it otherwise imo.

well, just an update. i got a call from nissan today and they told me that the parts have come in and i made an appointment to have it installed on next week thursday. i forgot to ask if it included the mechanism also, but hopefully it does. so far, i am pleased with the way things are progressing. i was really worried when some other members on this forum were saying that there was a national backorder on the tops. maybe i got my order in before others? i dont know. anyways, will keep everyone informed about how things go.

I just did the same thing. I had a great experience with the dealer, and it wasn't even where i bought my car. It seems to be only the first production cars, as I have seen the new tops on the newer models. I also got to see a new z with the knee pads. In any case, the dealer is going to make a ton of money for getting paid for the warranty work to replace the top on my ZR. I also inquired about getting matching leather installed on my car - somthing other than catskin since it doesn't match. But they also cut me a deal on quality matching leather and I'll get it done at the same time when they fix the top. It should be nice.

jrofman,

i guess that is why they are so happy to accomodate us... because of the money they are making off of the warranty work. i seriously was expecting to have to put up a fight and stand my ground.

cool that you are going to get a deal on the leather seats too. if my wife's arthritis wasnt so bad, i would have gotten the enthusiast model and got leather after also, but she needs the power seats.

Ragtopz - The Roadster has powered leather seats on the driver and passenger side.

paul,

is that true for the enthusiast model too? i thought that model only had the manual seats... it better!!! that is what my salesperson told me. the enthusiast model supposedly comes with the manual seats and cloth material according to him. i am shocked that a salesperson would lie to someone to sell a car already on the lot!!!

well, in any case, i guess it is too late to do anything about it now. still irritating though if it is true.

Yeah thats why I didn't get the touring. There were a few available when I bought my car - although I may have had to drive to nor cal to get it or just wait, but I realized that for a 2k difference you got 1: leather seats, 2: heated seats, 3: a bose stereo with sub woofer. I didn't need the stereo or heated seats. (I live in LA) and I was thinking about putting in an aftermarket nav since it would be cheaper, so I vowed to get aftermarket leather. Its going to look the same, and its a grand less.

I'm not sure because in Canada, there is only one model of the roadster and I believe it's the touring. Check the website: http://www.nissan.ca/en/vehicles/350..._roadster.html
In the seating/appointments section it lists a power 6 way Driver seat and a power 4-way passenger seat.
I'm not sure about the configurations in the states but I know my roadster has power seats on both sides!

Edit: I just looked at the nissandriven site and it appears that the Enthusiast doesn't come with power seats, nor does it appear to be an option. Your salesguy didn't lie.

both the enthusiast and touring have power seats, they are necessary for the movement when the top opens.

Well, both seats aren't really needed to be power adjustable for the top b/c only the passenger seat moves when the top is opened or closed.
