Default Oops. Front Bumper

Hi Gang,

Looks like I underestimated how low the front bumper is and scraped the underneath of it. I didn't hit the bumper itself but a small bit of plastic that protrudes down.
It seems to be covered with a sort of 3M type tape/film which has been partially torn off.

Any idea where I can get another adhesive strip or perhaps the Nissan Part #?

Thanks in Advance,
Paul

after my friend scraped it up, he just yanked that tape off. i personally would want to replace it like you.

scotch 3m makes a plastic tape. actually the name of the product is "scotch plastic". the little caption under that says, "tape repairs, decorates and identiies." it comes in clear and even comes in different colors which might be cool. it comes in 3/4 inch and i believe 1 1/2 inch.

i bought mine at a drug store, but it can be found at most stores i would think... it was in the school section i think. it is inexpensive and if you scratch it again then you have a whole roll left to repair again with.

good luck with it.

Thanks Gary. Is this tape as thick as the stuff that's on there now?

Dont worry about the black plastic thing under the bumper. As long as you dont hit it really hard going up a drive way or something you will be alright.

Mine is quite a bit scraped up.. :-/

I'd like to replace the thick plastic sticker film type thing that's there rather than just leave it bare though.
Are you able to look up the Nissan Part #? Do you have the service manual.

paul,

that stuff is kind of thick. kind of like electrician's tape. i would rather have that tape on too. i would rather scratch up the tape and replace it rather than to scratch the plastic. if i remember correctly, there was a picture of the tape sealing a hole in a hose. anyways, that stuff is from 3m so you know it's gotta be kind of good.

i never used if for any of that stuff though. i used to re-enforce my school folders with that tape when i was in high school.... back in the 80's.

I noticed the taped hanging down on my car after letting a friend test drive it. I pulled it off thinking it was part of the packing from being shipped new and that the dealer just missed it when taking all the shrink wrap off. I didn't realize that it could actually protect anything. I figured it's just a piece of clear tape.

Heh, I just got my car a few days ago, and I was used to a Mercury Mountaineer. If I would hit a curb or anything, hell, I just drove over it. Well, I had to learn a thing or two with the Z. I drove over curbs not once but TWO times! Scratched up the underside of the car a bit, but you can't see it unless you hunker down and look close. Even after that, tonight when I pulled into my spot I looked at the front end and it was hovering over the parking-stop concrete, with about a millimeter to spare. Yikes! I hope I have learned my lesson!

Eeee!! From a Mountaineer to a 350 is understandable.
I'm coming from a 92 Cavalier and the front bumper kind of "rounds up" so if you get too close to a parking curb, etc. it doesn't hit the bumper. SURPRISE! Not so with a 350. Heh Heh

Talking Front Bumper

That clear tape over the front lip comes from the assembly line when they install the bumper. It's never installed very well and usually ends up hanging down sooner or later. You may not have noticed but it has also been installed under the lip of the trunk so it is protected from your fingers/fingernails when you open the trunk. In addition to the strip that fits under the rear edge of your top.

This is what I did. When I got my 3M clear bra installed at "Clear Armor" in Mountain View, CA I was able to get a piece of the bra material that was left over from the edge of the template and install it on the lower lip of the bumper where the other piece had originally been. It is very easy to install and glues itself on a lot better than the stock material.

Just my 2 cents.............

Happy Motoring

Good idea!
I've got to find a 3M Clear Bra installer in the Kitchener-Waterloo part of Ontario that's reputable. Maybe I'll just drive to Toronto (an hour away) because there should be a lot of good installers there. It won't be until this spring/summer anyway.
