Default Help Me Decide!!!!1

Currently driving a 1995 300zx TT black/black and a previous owner of a 1990 Red NA. Ready for a convertible and am down to a ZR or a 3.0l BMW Z4 (friends with this car are pushing me in that direction so hear me out guys!).... I have an offer from my local Nissan dealer for $500 over invoice on whatever model/color/etc. I want. (He's an old friend)

All these posts about crappy stereos and bad tops, rattles, etc. have me a little skiddish about jumping in the ZR 'pool' just yet. I'm concerned about all of the 1st year issues. The Z4 is now in its second year and, while my history has me a long time Z driver, I'm wondering if I shouldn't just get a Z4 and drive it for a couple while Nissan works out the bugs in the ZR.

Anyone care to throw some opinions in here on this dilemma???

All thoughts are welcome...

Test Drive them both.
You'll inevitably choose the Nissan.
While I hated the look of the Z3, the Z4 looks ok to me.
The Nissan Z Roadster is much nicer looking in my opinion.
BMW interior will be better.
More power in the Nissan.
Maintenance costs will be cheaper in the Nissan.

You're experienced with Nissan and it hasn't let you down yet (i'm assuming) so I'd be surprised if you went with the Bimmer.

I live close to where the Z4 is made, so there are a lot of them here. In part, this influenced me as I wanted something different. In the end however, I think you get a lot more car with the ZR for less money. All this stuff you read about crappy stereos etc. shouldn't worry you. I assume the people who talk about the crappy stereo would say the same about any OEM setup, including the Z4. It all depends how deep you get into it.

I've got no rattles, no pinholes, no problems and so I wouldn't worry about it either. At the same time, from what I've heard from Z4 owners, they have a LOT more problems than ZR owners. It's all relative.

Finally, maintenance on the Z4 is free for the first 4 years (everything except brakes), so if maintenance costs are important keep that in mind.

Select what you want, when you want. Don't let others decide for you. Go with your gut feeling.

I would agree. I bought the car that I wanted, not the car that everyone on a nissan sight told me to buy, which of course would be a nissan.

There are a few issues with the 2004 Z, as there will be with any car, made anywhere, by any manufactuer. It is a piece of machinery, not the jewel of total perfection. Find that car and I will buy it, it doesn't exsist.

I've had no problems with my roadster either.

Good Luck

Default Thanks...

Thanks guys for your input.... I appreciate it. While I would never buy a car based on what anyone else thinks, sometimes someone else will bring out a point that makes the decision more clear.

In this case, further thought about the dealerships I will need to deal with (I'm in a fairly rural area) makes the choice more clear. (I've had trouble with the BMW/Lexus dealer in past Lexus dealings).

Now, about the color options.....

Thanks again.

I looked at Daytona blue and Black. I ended up with Black because, in my opinion, it looked a little more classy where the Blue looks more "fun" so I guess it depends on what you're looking for.

Availability is going to play a role here but my #1 color is Redline and #2 is White.

IMHO... I think nothing looks sharper than black, when it's clean.

I have a SB Roadster and man does it turn heads. My husband drives a Black Lincoln Navigator, my daughter a Black minivan, my son a Black Honda Accord, and my other car is a Black Cadillac Eldorado.
We are stuck on Black.

I would say get the white one - too bad they did away with that Brickyard color - that was GORGEOUS !! But, no matter which color you choose (other than LeMans Sunset), it looks gorgeous and you'll love the looks you get, long pathetic stares that elicit giggles of glee.
Enjoy it !!

That's weird because my dad just got a Z4 and everything was included in maintenance even breaks.

You're saying that because the LS color is so far more gorgeous than any other color that it's not even fair to include it in a comparison, right?
