Default NAV glare and volume with top down?

I know there's lots of NAV threads. I even started a couple but that's why i'm in this section now. I removed the cubby and have a Magellan tucked in there. The plan was to install the OEM NAV cluster (surround, whatever it's called) and permanently mount it. You guys with OEM NAV may not have sound issues since yours plays through the speakers but I noticed at least 75% of the time I can't see the screen when the top is down during the day. I don't think that little visor will do much. So can you guys see the screen, especially when the sun is from behind?

The navigation is set back in the cubby so the flip up door shades it.
Unless you're heading west in the mourning or east in the evening. You could always close your top or figure out where your going before you drive durring this time of the day. How often do you need navigation anyways. Are you pizza delivery or something? Use your smart phone.

Thanks for the reply, I think. Even with extended battery a smart phone will die before you arrive. You can plug it in but not make or receive calls at the same time. They also get very hot and can crash.

There is no cubby door on the 08 or 06+ with OEM NAV. Maybe I should have put that in the title.

Consider buying some of the new urethane based anti glare film sold as screen protectors for laptops, iPads etc. The camera store guy put some on the screen of my digital camera and it is now readable in bright sunlight.

That's an idea. I searched for that before but for the Garmin they only sell clear. I didn't think of a cutting down an ipad or laptop sized one in anti glare.

I have OEM Nav. It's unreadable with the top down during the day. If I use it (rare-use iPhone 5 navi), I just turn the volume up.
