Default Possible New Owner Questions

Good morning everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but not to Z cars. I've got a 280z I'm finishing the resto on at the moment, and had two Z31s prior to it. Now I'm considering a 350z, and found a few Roadsters nearby for a decent price.

Before I go look at these cars, I'd like to see what current owners would advise me to look at, given their experience. I'd also like to know what the typical issues are, and what to expect maintenance-wise for the vehicles mileage. I've got a shop full of tools, so I'll most likely be doing my own work, but I'm used to working on much older vehicles.

The cars I'm looking at are an '04 six-speed with 84,xxx miles, and an '05 six-speed with 117,xxx miles. Both are "Enthusiast" editions, and both are largely unmodified, save for cone air filters and non-OEM mufflers.

Thanks for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you all!

If you're a tech then just the typical stuff, massive oil leaks, body repairs, etc. 04-05's have a good motor from what I understand. These vehicles really are built good form the factory. Interior components could use better paint but otherwise these cars are dope.

What should be thrown out there is those cars run anywhere between 6-10k. That would make a great down payment on an 07-08 Z which run 12-16k. They have a better engine as far as reliability and horse power goes.

If you are looking into the earlier Z's (03-06ish) you should make note of how the transmission feels.

Probably the most common issues with these cars is the syncros going bad in the trans. Mine just went out last year at 70k miles.

Just keep an eye out for anything that seems out of the ordinary
