Hello everyone,
I just bought my 3rd Nissan 350Z, but this time I decided to get a convertible. The guy said it’s not leaking. Well, the soft top operates ok, but when I close it, it will leave half and inch gap in the rear side (see pictures) I tried to poor some water to check it and I saw water coming through the gap behind the small glass on the plastics. I’ve done some research but I don’t see anything in the YouTube or in the forum that mention this.
Has anyone had any similar issue?
Do I have to replace the gasket? I know nothing about convertibles, I just don’t want to flood a Nissan 350 Z. It will brake my heart.
This issue usually comes up after a top replacement since the roof material has not stretched enough to make a tight seal. However, judging by the seam separation at the top (above the rear glass), it looks like this top is not new. There are also some noticeable wrinkles which may indicate that your ZR was stored with the top down for an extended period of time (which is a no-no).
The material may need to stretch out (sitting in the sun), or it could be that the rear latch mechanism is not pulling down the rear enough.
Eh, kind of. There's like a "hook" that grabs onto the long metal piece which goes into the tonneau cover in the opening. I seem to recall the issue for some was that the tiny spring which kept that hook piece open had worn out, so the hook was not actually grabbing the metal and bringing it down enough.
Here's a TSB for when the 5th bow stops in the up position. I don't think this is your issue, but it is a good diagram for some of the inner workings of the top mechanism.
