Default XM Antenna location on a Roadster

I performed a search on the exisiting posts for information on antenna mounting points on the Roadster, but didn't see anything.

Has anyone tried to mount an antenna? Being magnetic, we're running into problems finding a location that has a clean look, on metal, and will give us the best reception.

Any suggestions?

I've been on this and a couple of other boards for about 5 months and haven't heard of anyone finding a suitable mounting point. Have heard that some put it up on the dash, behind the gauges, but still not sold on that place. I love XM but just can't commit to screwing up the looks of the roadster with an exterior mount.

Good luck in your search.

I had XM for about 2 weeks in my roadster right after i got it. I mounted the xm micro antenna on the center dash right near the edge of windshield. There is a small area there between the vents that fits the antenna perfectly. Reception was pretty good, did have usual dropouts under freeway over passes though.

I have a miata with XM, and I mounted the antenna on the forward leading edge of the trunk. It gets excellent reception there. I take my Z in on Tuesday for the stereo install, and I'll probably put the XM antenna in the same place. It's very subtle, certainly doesn't mess up the looks of the car.

Thanks - we planned to use the trunk as well, but unfortunately, that is fiberglass, so it won't work.

I also have the XM Radio antenna on the front edge of the dash between the vents. It has worked out great for me. A small piece of double sided sticky tape is all that is needed to hold it in place should you ever need to remove the XM unit, there would be no holes left behind to repair.

For purposes of saving space, I went with the Alpine CDA 9820 XM. It's the worlds 1st headunit with integrated XM tuner inside headunit. I don't know what other people did but i didn't want to put the tuner under seats, trunk or any of the storage spaces.

If anyone interested in it, pm me. I switched to a different unit with DVD and MP3 capability.

Looking for the same answer with my Sirius antenna which I had on my previous convertable. Besides the antenna, how does the XM or Sirius integrate with the Bose on the Touring model?

I had the same issue with signal dropouts--just moved antena to outside windshield between the wiper blades--seems to work and does not screw up sheet metal and is hidden!
