Default Dealership experiences

Hey everyone, my name is Ryan and i'm new. This is my first thread EVER and still don't know if i'm doing it right. Anyways, i'm trying to save up to get a Z roadster in about a year, year 1/2 and was wondering if anyone could talk about their dealer experiences. There is alot of younger people with Z's and bet that dealers give you alot of crap when you want to go get one (i'm 21). I think this would be pretty cool for people to share advise and their expiriences with eachother so people know what to expect as well as what to look out for such as how they were treated, cost, down payment, even credit scores they are looking at on those and what is the going rate on the Z's insurance for most owners. Anything you all want to talk about dealership related. Anyways, I hope people take the time to respond and i'll talk to you all later.

p.s. where can I download a wallpaper image on my mac of the boy looking into the Z's window that's black and white? That pics badass!

Welcome to the board Ryan. If you want info on dealers or insurance costs, I'd try a search of those two things in this section, the coupe section and your

Since you're a year away from buying, pricing will be difficult to figure out. Currently, in SoCal, roadsters are selling about 1k under MSRP. A few areas in the country are still adding a "market adjustment" to MSRP too.

Down payment? I'd put as much down as I could. If you've got a target monthly payment, you can use any finanical calculator to figure out what you have to put down. The interest rate will obviously influence this and in order to qualify for the best rates, you'll need at least a 700-720 FICO score.

Insurance is one of those age/record related things. I have a clean record (praying to keep it like that even if I can't seem to keep it under 80) and pay $376.00 every 6 months for 100/300 full coverage. There are a bunch of threads on this too. Feel free to do a search for more info.

Hey man, this REALY helps me out alot. I'm in Dallas, TX. and we have actualy been on the news 5 months ago for being one of the worst cities to purchas a car. The FICO score is realy huge and that's what I was looking for. And now that I know roadsters (my choice) are selling 1k under MSRP I know what to bargan for. You also mentioned that there are other threads "like" this one too, could you maybe tell me the general area where I might find them. How was your dealer experience? Thanks again SmoothDome.

A little off topic. Which one is the best dealership for service in S. Calif.? Especially in the San Gabriel Valley? Thanks.

Hey man, I'm from the Dallas area but nothing is off topic for the Dealership Experiences. I infact am going to wait so that I can purchas my Z from California. I wanted to start this thread so that people can share information to help out with questions such as yours. You may want to call around the different places to get the best prises however. I visited California twise in Sacramento (Deftones city) and loved it as well as the car scene and beter sales people (Honda of Oakland). If you find out keep us posted because thier might be people from your area with the same questions. Infact, where did you get your Z and how was the dealership?

This is what I hate most about the nissan dealerships and service people... Typical scenario, I have a grinding noise or issue with the car, I search the posts here and find that its a common problem, and lots of people have had this problem. I call the nissan service department to ask about it, or to schedule a visit, they play stuipid, act like they have never heard of this, know nothing of what I am talking about, and have never heard of this problem before, or anyone who has had it ...

btw, which dealership in the dallas area is selling roadsters 1000 under msrp ??i

I'm not quite sure which dealership in Dallas is selling roadsters for that much, but in McKinney they just opend up a new Nissan dealership however I think it's a used one, not sure. I don't know if you saw but there was a report about 5 months on our news talking about, when it came down to it, that Dallas, TX. is top place of worst car dealerships, people, scams. I hear that Fort Worth is good service as well as cheaper tax. Then again it's being compared to Dallas. If I were you I would get on the main Nissan homepage and tell them how they are treating you down here instead of just some manager. They definately do not want people seeing about the problems you are having. Remember, these people work in a service department, I'm sure they would love for your Z to not be working. I hate when if car salesmen/sevice guys don't have a nice car (ecspecialy when they sell them) then they make sure you don't either. It all varies on how old you are. I've actualy seen other people say that's what they're getting their roadsters for ($1,000 under msrp). What dealership did you get your car from? How was the service?

Ryan,

Would you go ahead and buy a roadster if you could buy it close to invoice?

Redline Roadster, 5MT, Touring, 17" wheels, no NAV.

Call Steve Wood, 870-741-8211 and tell him Bill sent you and how you heard about it. I'm not a salesman, I make nothing from the deal.... just trying to earn brownie points with my dealer.

Man, if I had the money now I DEFIANTLEY would give this guy a call. Sadly, it's going to be about a year, year and a half before I would have enough down a fix my credit so that I can actualy get one. I'm getting the 6-speed however. They realy descriminate about age down here. They even give you false credit printouts and don't give you the affect of you score and tell you how you need to put down half and all that and this was way before I had debt. I've had very bad experiences, then again, i'm sure most have. We'll see what happen. Thanks alot man

What's up "Smooth", I bet SanDiego is kickin' ***. I can't wait to go there when I leave for Marine boot camp. This is how I plan to have enough for a down payment in about a year with the free housing and all (no, not my purpose of joining). You mentioned that 700-720 FICO score is desireable, however I have to ask, about how much did you put down then within that score range. I'm planning on getting the 6-speed roadster so I was wondering in what "percent" and that score I would need down (of around the $34,000-$35,000 range)?

I figure since SanDiego is where my job (infantry) will have me and your from the area and know about the FICO score, you would know best on what would be good at the dealership (what's a good one?) as far as payment and all that. Because I know it's different in Dallas (tax, kinds of salesman, etc.) I realy appreciate it man.

I'm not much of a credit analyst, but my understanding of FICO scores is that it one of the parts of your score is based on your debt ratio. Basically, the lower the percentage of debt you have in comparasion to your income, the higher your FICO score would be. They also review open credit lines, history of payments, etc. All this information is somehow turned into your credit score. The score itself won't be influenced by the amount of money you put down though. The score will only be used to determine if you're credit worthy and what interest rate you qualify for.

I figure since SanDiego is where my job (infantry) will have me and your from the area and know about the FICO score, you would know best on what would be good at the dealership (what's a good one?) as far as payment and all that. San Diego gives you two choices of dealers. Mossy Nissan, which currently has 46 Z's on their 9 lots or Pacific Nissan. Mossy is a no haggle dealer. You walk in, the price on the car is what you pay. There's no negotiation. Currently, they're selling Z roadsters for 1k under MSRP. As for Pacific Nissan, I had a bad experience there when I went looking at Frontiers, so I'm not a fan. I know they have a much smaller allotment of Z's though.

Hope all this helps!

Man I can't wait. Mossy Nissan it is. California dealerships are do much easier to deal with than Texas. Hell, even Honda in Oakland was better than Honda Cars of McKinney.

I went in with my '97 civic that was totaled from hail and the $4,960 claim check about a year ago. I saw a 2001 CiviC LX two-door 5 speed, injen intake and muffler a month later listed for about $17,355 So They tell me they will use the check and the totaled car as a trade-in.

They call me two days after so I went there in the finance managers office and he looks at me and says "the 'bank' is asking for $3,000 more dollars". I told them that we had a contract, which is what I accidentaly left there, and he said that he could get my down payment back. I said I'd think of something.

The next day I sit with the other manager and I ask "where on your computer does it say 'quote' 'RYAN DAVIS MUST PUT $3000 MORE DOWN OR HE CAN'T HAVE THE CAR' I then tell him to give me my contract and he REFUSES! says they can't give it to me unless it's in full and since they needed $3,000 more it wasn't "complete".

Next day I say to just give me back my car and check because they said they could. All of the sudden, they sold my trade in. I tell my friend who sells ACURAS and he says that in order to sell my car they have to have a clear title to do so, and get this, they can't have a clear title unless there is a complete contract. So I look at now whats 3 of them after relaying the info. and said "i'm rather being lied to about my trade in being sold or i'm being lied to that you all need $3000 more, which one is it!" And left.

Next day I go in and they're working on a new contract for me to fill and apologised. Looking at it I actualy got around the same deal but they snuck in the gap insurance which is good because, here's the kicker, adsactly one week later, somebody hit and totaled the car I had just got. State Farm drops me because it's 2 totals in one year (hail damage yet I had prior record to that i'll admit) and even thogh I was hit from behind at a red light, progressive would not admit to the fault.

It's just because I was 20 with a "souped-up" car. I can't wait to just get a big chunck of money to throw down on a Z!
Thanks so much for your input Smooth, it's adsactly what I needed.

Hey mode101, hows your luck with the service so far. Like I said earlier you probably might want to check the one that just opend in McKinney. Hope the problem gets taken care of. If that was their attitude up front, I would never give them the chance to work on my Z.

In fact I have a very good friend who does work on even BMW's and such. He's real great and in Dallas. Take note.

His name is RAIL (what we call him) and he works at:

YOVS
13595 Floyd Circle
Dallas, TX.
972-437-4216

if you do happen to go just tell him Ryan sent you. I hope everything works out for you and your Z man.

Read all about it at http://www.myfico.com/

The cheapest way of short term borrowing I have seen is using a Home Equity Line of Credit

I remember a long time ago when I was looking at eclipses I ended up not getting one, and about a year or now even more later I talked to another guy and told him "I just want to see if you have a manual and if I can buy it, don't haggle me."

So he pulls up in, of course, an automatic and says "well Ryan I know Manual is your thing but..." to realize not only has it been over a year, but I didn't even tell him my name! It was Don Herring here in Plano RIGHT NEXT to the David McDavid Acura dealership my good friend works at.

I was looking to get the RSX TypeS and the manager has the nerve to call me, and my friend didn't even know the manager did this to him and go through his files, and says "how old are you", at the time I said "18 why" and he says "well THEN an Acura RSX is DEFINITLEY out of the question, but we have some accords in our used lot..." I said "well THEN i'm DEFINITLEY not buying from you".

Little did the ******* know even though I was ONLY 18 I was working for Valet Parking Service inc. at the West Village and made $250 each weekend cash and $6.00 an hour on weekdays checks not to mention tips (not bragging).

I could of paid an RSX TypeS off in little as probably 2-3 years if I wanted! Now if I was older and made the same, even less, he would of had respect but shot down a deal because of someones age.

This is actually false. Debt-Income ratio is not figured in at all for FICO scores. The bank however will be VERY interested in D/I after the FICO qualification.

Fair Isaac won't tell us what the algorithm is specifically, but here's the overall makeup:

35% - Payment History
30% - Credit Utilization
15% - Length of Credit History
10% - New Credit/Inquires
10% - Types of Credit Used

What adsactly do you mean credit "utilization"?

I just got my credit report two days ago from my friends car dealership (I know it gets bumped down five points) from Equifax.

They were so good at the top to explain how delinquent I am but the first two items that showed I owed money on, I've never heard of. Not only did they add two random payments to say i'm behind on, but left out an entire car!

So if debt is not considered until after, then how come it's suggested to pay off all your debts in which will raise your credit score? Do you pay your debts then apply for "new credit". I got this from actual credit help sites. They say the more you pay your debts your behind on, in time the score gets bumped up like in 4 months or so.

Please correct me if i'm wrong. the information everybody has already provided has been real useful also. Thanks.

orionsky133@hotmail.com

P.S. "D/I" I'm guessing "Direct Income"?

It depends on whether it was a "hard" inquiry or not. If a dealership ran your credit (even as a favor to you), it was probably a "hard" which will lower your score. Not the wisest way to go about viewing your credit report.

Many, MANY people's reports are filled with inaccuracies. The good news is they can be fixed, but they will require serious dedication on your part.

You've been fed misleading info. If you're concerned about fixing your credit, go to this site, and read up in the forum section http://www.creditboards.com There are many people who can help, along with free sample letters you can use as guides to send to the various bureaus, collectors, etc. My wife and I had a combined 14 negative items last April, and in September our reports were sparkling clean. I refinanced at an A+ paper rate and qualified for the lowest APR when I bought my ZR.

THANK YOU! The ZR is adsactly what i'm trying to get. I'm trying to get in the military and figure with free rent, free insurance (health), etc. and my $1,150 base pay for just the first year, I could clean up my credit and have a very good down payment on a ZR in a little over a year.

I'm going to check up on this website. The sample letters seem badass and hopefuly it will let me know how to refinance or get my better credit score before I do anything.

You've been a real big help man, thanks!
