Yeah mine does - when opening and the top first comes off the windshield it jolts very noticably.

Now that you mention it, I'm going to try and unlatch and then push up on the latch portion of the roof before opening. Maybe that will eliminate the jerk.

My latch would catch just slightly and that would make evrything jerk a little with an audible snap. Now, I pull the latch down and conyinue to gently hold it pulled down until the retracting roof takes it out of my fingertips. It makes for a less violent top opening proceedure.

Yes. Mine jerks when opening but I have read on various posts that this is quite normal operation.

Default Let me be more specific...

Mine snaps when it leaves the windshield also, but I'm asking about when it bends past the 90 deg angle. Does everyone else's pop hard then?

There was a thread a couple of months ago that dealt with this. It was explained that for whatever reason, it is completely normal. I can't remember the reason for it right now, but a detailed search should lead to some answers.

Mine does the snap/jerk when opening. I also help support the front section when closing. My Eclipse would slam down when closing also.

Actually if you view the ending of that Roadster Commercial that was posted, at the press conference the top snap/jerks there as well.

I do the same when opening. In addition, I try to grab the latch while the roof is coming down while closing. I normally catch it just before the roof lands on the top of windshield. Wonder if anybody does that?

I catch it every time just to keep it from hitting hard. No problem.

It also jerks fairly hard when it reaches the 90 degree angle when opening. I wonder how long this is going to last. Looks like a pretty good strain when it flops back during opening. Anybody have a failure of the top yet?

I don't think you have much to worry about, but my top goes up and down smoothly with no real jerky movement. Mine is a 2004.5 model.
