Default tonneau cover Rubbing

After the second time of bringing in my roadster for the tonneau cover rubbing and having it repainted and adjusted, I decided to get some 3M film put on back there to protect the paint from rubbing. Well, yesterday it paid off. After work I went to put the top down and I heard a "thump". I got out and looked after the top was down and the 3M film was rubbed. If I hadn't had the film there I would have had a third paint rub. The first 2 times I heard the same "thump" sound and when I got out I found a spot where the paint had been rubbed off. Anyone else hearing an occasional "thump" sound when opening your top?

Default Had the same problem.....

When I took the car in, they said they had to adjust the trunk lid. They repainted both the trunk lid & tonneau cover. I haven't had any problems since.

Sounds like they haven't adjusted yours properly.

Default "Thumps"

I'd keep checking yours periodically. How long had you had the car before you noticed your tonneau cover had rubbed places on it? I'm thinking its a Nissan design problem where occasionally something back there will get stuck or not operate properly.

I've been keeping my eye on it since I had it repaired. I've had the car about three months when I noticed it. I did notice also that the trunk lid and tonnea cover was not even. I talked to the person that did the repair and he said he had to remove or place some shims at the trunck hinges. This brought the two back into alignment. So far so good.

If it does come up again, it'll go back to the dealer again. It cost them quite a bit of money last time as they put me in a rental car for two weeks while it was being repaired. I'd think they would have fixed it right the first time.

Good luck with yours.

I've had my Roadster since February. Top down weather here started about April, and mine has been going up and down with no problems for all of that time. Just today I've noticed that I have some rubbing on the tonneau cover, and now the cover appears slightly higher than the trunk deck. I heard about the shim problem, but mine initially appeared in good alignment and didn't have a problem, so I doubt that it was missing shims. I wonder if normal usage works the trunk & cover out of alignment. Today is our hottest day of the summer so far, and my car was sitting out in the sun. I wonder instead if the trunk and cover are dissimilar materials, and expand in the sun at different rates screwing up the tolerances. Have many people had the scraping just start happening now after months of use without a problem?
