Top up or down while garaged?
My son (12 yrs old) loves our ZR more than I do (and I LOVE it). He can't stand it when I put the top up. So I usually leave the top down all the time, and only put it up when I wash it or it's raining.
I've noticed that after several days of having the top down, parts of it are kinda wrinkled when I put it up (on the sides). Is this OK? Is it better to keep the top up most of the time unless I drive it? I always make sure it's completely dry when I put it down. Whaddya think? Thanks!

my sides get wrinkled even if i put the top down for a normal drive. the wrinkles always go away though after a while.
i am not sure how good it is to have the soft top folded up for long periods of time is, however the owner's manual specifically states to ,"store the vehicle with the top closed if it is not to be used for long periods. Keeping the top stowed for long periods may cause wrinkles on the surface of the top." page 3-27.
so i suppose that for short trips, the wrinkles will go away. but maybe not so easily if you almost always keep it down?
i know this doesnt help much. sorry.

In the garage, unless I've been driving with the top up (which is rare), the top stays down when it gets parked...pretty certain I'll have it down next time I drive so no need for wear and tear on the mechanicals. I just have a plastic poncho, actually, that I spread over the open area just to avoid too much dust or whatever getting inside; don't know if it makes that much difference but makes me feel better (grin). Of course, that means the windows are up, too. I don't figure that 12 to 15 hours folded at a time is any harm. I probably wouldn't leave it down for extended periods, not so much for the wrinkling, but just simply for the protection for the interior (bugs, dust, etc.).

I've owned convertibles since I started driving and that is a fairly long time. I currently own 5 convertibles and have 4 garage spaces. Tops are down almost always (in garage) since I drive with tops down almost always anyway. Wrinkles are never a problem to worry about. They come out when top is up. And if top is down anyway who cares about a few wrinkles.

I had a skunk in my garage a few years back - pre "ZR" of course, but none-the-less, I wouldn't want it to get into the car no matter how bad the stereo sounds! <G> The top on mine is up unless it's out on the open road...

Not that I read the manual or anything but, uhhh, somebody told me the manual states that you should never leave the top down for the night cause it can cause permanant creases.

The manual actually states you should not store the car for long periods of time with the top down. I guess it depends on your definition of "storing for long periods of time".
