Default Trunk Lid

I was cruising down they highway the other day travelling about 120 km/h and my trunk lid opens up fully vertical.

I find the trunk lid doesn't latch unless you really slam it and its difficult to tell if its closed visually unless you try to open it.

Plus there aren't any indicator lights inside the car to remind you the trunk lid is open.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Yeah, same thing happened to me. You really do have to slam it hard.

In the manual, it says there's supposed to me indicator lights. Mine doesn't light up when the hatch is open.

So I took it to the dealership. They said they checked with other Z's, they are all the same -- no indication when the hatch is open.

I guess we're just stuck. Make sure it's closed each time. It was so embarassing when the lid opened up when I was going 80mph+.

I was thinking about wiring the trunk lid switch into my interior door switch so the dash indicator would go on with the trunk lid open, but I hate doing that sort of thing on a new car.

There was a post about a guy that modified the trunk lift spring with a penny so the lid would open a little higher. I might look into doing this.

I put a Stillen spoiler on mine and it always closes with the extra weight. A pretty costly solution but it does look nice.

I'd guess that the trunk lid makes a dandy spoiler in the full upright position. No need to spend extra $$. These Nissan engineers deserve more credit.

I've had this happen to me more than once. As a matter of fact, when I took one for a test drive (before I bought mine), this happened and the dealer plate went flying off to the side of the road. We turned around to go get it just in time as some guy from a Toyota dealership had stopped and was picking it up.

I'm sure that would have cost the poor salesdude his job.
