Question Audio system in 370Z

I got a new 370Z in base trim with the Sport pkg. I'm here to tell ya: If you don't spring for the $7k Touring package (with Bose stereo, XM, Bluetooth, iPod, MusicBox, XM and voice recognition, all integrated with the nav system), what you get is a AM/FM/CD that's only marginally better than the one I put in my 1978 Chevy Nova. It's really lame. So, it's all or nothing, basically, with regard to your audio choices!

There are two phony speaker covers on the sides just behind the seats. Those are purely cosmetic; there's no speaker installed there. In my most wishful thinking, I could hope maybe there are wires to those locations for aftermarket speaker installation, but I'm not really holding out for that...

The stereo has "Fade" capability, but fading to the rear simply cuts out the four front speakers (two small on the door kickpanels, two even smaller in the corners of the dashboard top). However, since the electronic display indicates the possibility, at least, of rear speakers, I'm a little more hopeful that there must be rear outputs on this unit somewhere... I'm a little gunshy about digging that stereo out of the dash to look for 'em. I'm only slightly less gunshy about letting some local car audio shop turn their HS dropout "technician" loose on my new car...

Any thoughts from those of you who have had 350s for a while? I'd appreciate any advice you can offer.

That sucks....so it's basically the same **** that all the 350's came with as well that were non bose. I ended up replacing the speakers as I'm sure most people on here have done too.

Yeah the 350 always had rear speakers, and the Bose wasn't that much better def not for what they are asking. Piece it together for under a grand you can have an pretty awesome sounding system.
www.onlinecarstereo.com

This is just an example:
Head Unit: $615.00
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=20188

Front: $225.00
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=19799

Rear: $114.00
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=16053

Amp: $199.00
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=17710

Install like $200-300 if you can't do it yourself.

Altogether $1353.00 and much better than what is offered in the touring model, that will accomplish just about everything you need.

Default 370Z Rear speakers

There are two rear speakers grills located behind the seats below the little side windows. I don't know if speakers are installed there but I will let everyone know once I receive my 370Z. Stay tune!

Dude, see my original post: "There are two phony speaker covers on the sides just behind the seats. Those are purely cosmetic; there's no speaker installed there."

I'm talking about base trim. If you ordered Touring trim, you'll undoubtedly have speakers there.

I'll have speakers there later today, too! I'll let you know how the installation goes.

Let us know if the rear speaker covers are factory wired or whether they need to add a aftermarket wiring set-up!

I spoke with someone who installed a stereo on a base 370z. According to him:

-base model gets 4-speaker setup: small-ish tweeters in the dash and 6.5's in the doors.
-there's no wiring for the rear speakers, nor are there any speakers in the rear.

I'd love to install a new headunit and speakers/components in a new 370Z.

Any recommendations on a new headunit, speakers, components for the 370z? Also, it appears to be a bit more difficult to install compared to the 350z, especially finding a curved matching face plate.

What's your budget?

I'm partial to Kenwood double-din headunits, such as the DNX-7120/8120.

Depending on the size of the opening compared to the 350Z, I wonder if it's something I can trim the 350Z trim piece and mold under heat?

Max $3,000 for entire system. I want a good headunit that can change colors to match the default orange (persimmon?) that is currently in the car. Plus, as you mentioned it has that curved top that butts up against the little compartment (I don't have the nav system).

Do you want navigation? Normal double-din cd player? touchscreen? DVD-player? iPod controls?
