I think I have for the second time blown the antenna booster. My Z is my toy car so it sometimes goes for long time with out being started. Then I have to jump it to get it started. Twice now the radio has quit working, the first time I replaced the antenna booster/amplifier and this fixed the problem. I am about to buy another antenna booster, but would like to confirm that I have caused the problem with jump starting. Is there a way to avoid this problem? Thanks for any help!

Get yourself a trickle charger (battery tender). If you continue to let the battery discharge like that it will become sulfated and you'll have to replace it, too. Also, unless you have an unusual drain in the electrical system, or an already failing battery, you should be OK for a least a month. just guessing, but I also have a few cars, but they always start easily after 3 or 4 weeks of sitting unused.

 

Yeah get a good battery, or a trickle charger...

But

If you know its going to be sitting for a long time shut off power to the radio before shutting off... Disconnect the battery... And if you need to jump start it turn on the lights or the fan before you disconnect the cables... If your getting a spike of power you want it to go their not in your antenna, or more importantly your computer.

 

Or just hook your antenna booster to switched power source so it only activates when the car is running.
If you notice only a few accessories remain on when you engage the starter, most everything is shunted to provide max cranking power to the starter. You should not see any spikes if your system is wired correctly.

But proper battery maintenance is key. My z is a pleasure car too so if it is going to sit longer than a few weeks it goes on the battery tender. If you deep cycle a battery too many times it just will not hold a charge, unless you have an Optima Blue top or similar battery.
