Default 370Z Oil Temp Problems

Has anyone on here contacted Nissan USA (other than me) concerning the 370Z oil temp problems? Every auto magazine that tested the 370Z & Nismo 370Z indicated that the oil temps rose to possible problems highs when driven on the track or at highway sppeds for extended times. I am talking about temps over 250. Some of the magazine indicated that Nissan had ADDED an oil cooler to the vehicle before the magazine tested the vehicle. To me this indicates that Nissan is aware of the problem with oil temps. Also, in the latest issue of Nissan Sport Magazine, the editors have added information about an approved Nismo oil cooler available for purchase and installation by your dealer to work with your warrenty. This is further proof that Nissan is aware of this issue. When I contacted Nissan USA Customer Service, the individual indicated that there was no other complaints about the issue. If you are having this problem, please contact Nissan USA and let them know about it. I feel that this part should have been installed at the factory or at the dealership prior to sale FOR FREE, especially for a vehicle being hailed as the BEST Z ever. Even if Nissan won't provide the oil cooler for free, they should at lease provide it at a very low cost with free installation.

Would like to hear what other 370Z owners feel about this.

yes actually on the other forum the 370z we actually had a nissan rep come out and look at the cars they determined that it is not a problem and that nothing more would be done, as it is right now the oil temps don't exceed high temps when driving daily and nissan doesn't and wont install an oil cooler. Also if they would have considered it a problem they would have at least installed an oil cooler in the 2010 models and even the nismo but they didn't.

The stock brake pads that come with 370Zs will fry up in a track. Should nissan replace that too?

You can get a low cost oil cooler from GTM if youre so worried about overheating during street use. It'll also add a quart of capacity.

Nissan simply doesn't care about the track enthusiasts, which is precisely why they didn't put it on the NISMO 370. The fact that the NISMO is touted as the special track Z but comes w/o an oil cooler and an upgraded VLSD is ridiculous.

We have run the 370 on the track, and oil temps climbed within 3 laps (about 7 minutes of track time).

I don't think the nismo Z is even close to being track ready. Lack of adjustable suspension, camber locked, heaviness, lack of a large PS and oil cooler and crappy pads makes it barely track ready. Its autoX ready, but so is the nissan maxima.

This is why I don't like buying first or second MY cars. Now I don't know whether this is infact a bigger problem, but from reading the mags and forums, that's all I see and everyone cannot be crazy. It would be helpful if the people who have experience the oil temp problem would also state how they were driving it and outside temperature, etc.

I would like to think Nissan is a responsible company and would put a TSB out or a cooler for the 2010 MY Z's, the fact that the don't, I think they just don't care??? Don't you guys remember the whole deal with the 2009 GT-R Launch Control fked up the tranny and Nissan stated the fine print is in the manual?!

If Nissan just don't care about the oil temp, why the hell did they make a NISMO without one? Watch this Youtube, this guy shows the oil temp issue, you'll be the judge.

By the way, does anyone know if G37 have this problem?? It uses the same engine.

Cooler does not fix it. Recent article on the 370z forum about the one that won that race, had a oil cooler, and the car still failed. It just delays it.

Here is the article on how the oil coolers are not helping.

Recap:
Spring Mountain was a first for the AE crew and with 18 turns it was anything but easy to figure out the fast way through the course, but fortuneately NV locals including Mike and the Double Down crew were super cool in lending a helping hand.

On track the car felt rock solid. The AE preped JIC dampers allowed for late apexing and a planted rear end through the high speed sections even with the old tires we were on. (3 track days).

We switched to Ferodo RS3000 pads for our AP brakes that ended up being a bit too aggressive in the rear but a quick swap to a milder Mintex pad in the rear settled the car much more and was easier to keep stright under hard braking.

Heat was a major issue for everyone. With the Oil Cooler upgrade we were still only able to complete 1 hot lap before the oil temps hit 280deg and the car wouldn't rev past 5k rpm's.

After all was said and done, We were all really impressed with the Z. With viturally no power mods out-side of a Stillen intake and Mine's Flash we were solely relying on the Z's chassie to pull through for us and it did! Rich placed 5th in Modified RWD Class in the GT2, GTR (DNF),and I grabbed top honors in SS RWD class with the Z, and was able to make the 4.5hr drive back to the OC without a hick-up.

Next Event we'll have:
Fresh Tires! (Hankook RS3's)
More Camber (SPL or equilviant)
More Cooling (Twin Setrab's)
More Powa! (AE Exhaust, AE down pipe's, Pulley, etc)

Stay tuned for more updates on our new products soon to be released for the Z!

Big Thanks to the crew at JIC and Hankook Tires!

Wish us luck at Round 8!

ok, so you guys expect a 30k car to perform on the super-car level, be maintenance free , have zero issues and be "race prepped" right from the showroom floor ?

This to me is a embarrassing problem, my 03 does just fun. How can nissan produce a car that you can't run on the highway. The more I hear about Nissan and I have owned my car for 4 years, I might add, makes me want to start looking elsewhere for my next car. The 370z, doesn't make me want to buy

i don't think it is that bad. there are more than a few vq37vhr out there. if you remember, the bmw tt (335i) motor was going in to thermal limp mode in the test vs g37 a few years back.

Hmm strange. I have only hit 180-190 oil temps cruising. If I start to play a bit, I get it up to 205-210. The track the hottest I got was 255 and that was pushing it hard and in 100 degree heat. My last visit at the track I didn't go over 240.

Mine is on a sandwich plate on the oil filter itself.
