Thumbs up UpRev Tune on an '06 Z

**********************************************************
NOTE: I figured I'd post this thread here also since UpRev is located in
Austin and there may be some members here who may be interested in doing
the same thing. I posted the original thread on this same topic in the Tuning
Section but that section normally caters to the entire community. This
thread will cater more to the local community.
**********************************************************

Well, I was finally able to schedule a tune with UpRev this past Saturday (May 5, 2007). Drove from SA to Austin to be at their shop by 9am. Within half an hour, my Z was strapped down & we were able to do our 1st pull of the day.

Here’s the summary of the tune & the dyno results (DYNOJET):

-- Initial pull was 238.09 whp & 216.32 ft/lbs (blue in 1st chart). The engine was heat soaked, after driving 1 1/2 hours & with less than ideal weather conditions (high 80s with high humidity). We did two more pulls before letting the engine cool down.

-- After the initial cool down period (still without a tune), the 4th pull was 244.74 whp & 222.39 ft/lbs (blue in 2nd chart).

-- Jared tuned the Z the rest of the day, adjusting the AFR first (achieving 12.9-13.0), and then the timing. He basically refined his tune after every three pulls to achieve the optimum results. With the UpRev Cipher software program, Jared was able to make adjustments in “real time” so we were seeing immediate results of these adjustments after every pull.

-- During these intermediate pulls, we were getting up to 246-249 whp consistently. We just could not get over the 250+ whp mark so we decided to let the engine cool down after he completed the final timing adjustments. The next three pulls will be the last of the day.

-- With the engine cooled down, pull #39 achieved the best results of the day -> 252.01 whp & 224.97 ft/lbs (red in 2nd chart).

-- The last pull of the day, #41, resulted in 246.67 whp & 223.62 ft/lbs (red in 2nd chart) after the engine has been heat soaked from the previous pulls.

-- I was very pleased with the results. Even with an A/T and the associated drivetrain loss, we felt that these gains were favorable. According to UpRev, I have the 1st Z that they have tuned that achieved over 250+ whp (M/T or A/T), and that’s remarkable since they have tuned dozens of other Zs.

In addition to the tune, UpRev also raised the REV limiter to 7K and removed the speed limiter. Lastly, they provided me the following map switching settings:

Map 1 - UpRev Performance for 93 Octane
Map 2 - Valet (3500 rpm and 40 mph)
Map 3 - Stock with adjusted Target AFR

Overall, I was very impressed with UpRev. They had the entire team on-site [ Chung (lead), Jared (tuner) and John (developer) ] to provide me the services that I need in order to achieve the optimum tune possible for my current setup.

Here are my power mods:

JWT Popcharger
MOTORDYNE 5/16” Plenum Spacer
MEGAN RACING Headers
MEGAN RACING Resonated Test Pipes
INJEN SES True Dual Exhaust System
MAGNAFLOW Tru-X Perforated Core Muffler

Below are the two dyno sheets provided by UpRev. This is my 1st dyno with my Z since I was not able to do one when it was still stock. I plan on scheduling another dyno in a few months when the weather conditions are more favorable in getting better results, but overall, I am very happy with the current numbers.

NOTE: Last month, I was 8.252 seconds slower than the fastest car in the local auto-x event (Z06 driven by one of the fastest drivers in the country). This Z06 manages to always post the best raw times in the local events. This weekend, I was only 4.956 seconds slower against the same Z06. Different course, different dates, but still the same cars & same drivers driving the same course. I felt that the UpRev tune made a huge difference in optimizing my Z’s performance for this weekend’s auto-x event.

Here's the list of importance as far as autox goes:

1. Tires
2. Weight
3. Suspension
4. Power

It was not this 'mod' that got you closer to the Vette. I bet you gained like .2-.5 on the same course.

No changes were made on #1-#3 from last month to this month. The only change was #4. BTW, we did not ran the same course or location. It was a different course at a different location, but same cars with the same drivers.

I am not sure if those numbers are good or not. I had Stillen Exhaust, Stillen Intake and MREV (BETA) the original since I was a beta tester for Motordyne. My G35 dynoed 255 hp and 246 TQ. with those mods. Stock it did 255 hp and 231 TQ peak. But it gained 18~hp and TQ throughout the midrange.

This was on a 05 G35 Sedan 6mt REV-UP

Any idea if they will be doing the 07+ HR Engines? I plan to get my Z soon and might have them play with it.

To my knowledge, they don't have an 07 yet to work on, but Im sure if they do get the 07 ecu, they will be able to figure it out/tune it. They have a lot of cool things to bring to the Z market very shortly

No, it was someone else's. I probably will hear from UpRev on the results either late today or tomorrow. I'll PM you once I hear from them.

+07 ECU is on the way from Nissmo as we speak. The ECU is a whole new platform in comparison to 06 and earlier, so it will take some time to develop, but we should be ready for 07 very soon.

The guy never showed up for the big breather kit, so we don't have any results to share .
