Default Forged Performance: High Boost Greddy TT with Meth/FCON

We had another really great tuning session yesterday with Joe K.'s yellow Greddy TT. Joe is a neat guy. He does almost all of the mechanical wrenching on his car, and simply buys parts from us, and has me do the tuning.

Here is his basic mod list:
Eagle Rods/Cosworth Pistons
Cosworth Big Valve Heads
JWT C2 Camshafts
HKS F-Con Vpro
HKS Knock Amp
HKS EVC6
Meth Kit
Greddy TT
CJM Stage I fuel system
RC 1000cc Low Impedence Injectors
APS 3 inch True Dual Exhaust

Joe made the drive down from Indianapolis, with his new meth kit installed, and had a goal of hitting 600whp on our Dyno Dynamics with pure 93 octane pump gas, and methanol injection. The 350Z community has been a little slow to embrace the benifits of meth injection, so I was eager to give it a shot. We have done several low boost stock block meth setups, but no high boost meth....yet.

The results were well beyond what I expected on pump gas+meth. First, I wired and programmed the FCON to trigger a fuel and timing compensation map ONLY when the meth kit is active, and the FCON recieves a trigger. So if the meth kit malfunctions, or does not activate, the standard fuel and timing maps (safe) would be used. This requires no user intervention at all, and is seamless in feel and operation to the driver. Joe was pushing me to hit 650whp, but I stopped short. The engine sounded strong through the headphones, with zero knock.

The great thing about methanol, is we have to remove quite a bit of fuel from the tune, so this allows us to stretch the limits of a single Walbro 255.

Joe and I drove the car, and its absolutely stink fast....just nutty. And all on pump gas+meth. We used less than 1/2 gallon of meth for the entire tuning process and his long drive home as well. He figures he will have to refill his large resevior less than once a month.

Here are the dyno charts, and some pics (figure about 7-10% higher on a typical DynoJet). For reference, the highest previous pump gas tuning we have done was 550whp'ish on customer cars, and we did 587whp on my car. 660whp was the highest power level achieved with C18 race gas on our DD. These are pure DD numbers.

Nice numbers, looks good. I've always been a fan of this car, it's beautiful in person, not to mention fast. I was going to mention that it looks like it did well with the stage 1 fuel system.

Are 1000 cc injectors really necessary? Nice numbers.

Hi Driven. 1000cc low impedence injectors from RC are nearly the same price as 750cc high impedence. We use the larger low impedence injectors with the FCON, this style of injector has a response time that is about 4-5 times faster than a high impedence injectors. Since there is no drawback, and quite a few benefits to using them...we use them.

Have you tried higher boost than 14psi? and if so how did the car react.

Meth is really nice..It turns 93-94 octane into race gas basically and rather cheaply. It also cools the intake charge and cylinder temps and allows you to run more boost and more timing.. The gain was from the added boost and added timing on a more predictable mixture..We are actually in the process of developing a really nice METH injection kit for the Z, keep an eye out for that..Good work Sharif...
Just cusrious, how much extra timing were you able to run on the meth?

Which Meth kit was it? Also Sharif, could you PM me a price for the HKS Knock Amp meter? I assume that it also read A/F.

great numbers, is the meth injected directly into the side of the plenum vs the intake pipe? is that what the pic is showing? if so, why did he do it that way, wouldnt the meth get more evenly dispersed if you went with the intake tube instead of one side of the plenum, it seems like that bank would get more meth than the other.

thats the FCON air temp sensor on the driver side of the plenum.
