So I've tried searching but no one has responded......

So what part of the warranty covers the fuel gauge? I have an '05 enthusiast and my fuel gauge is retarded right now..... I had 1/2 tank this morning... Then when I went to leave work the fuel light was on and the needle was on "E"..... WTF??? Me fuel needle is just wacky....

There are quite a few threads on this. Try searching for "gas guage", "fuel guage", etc... but I can explain the whole issue here:::


I have a 2003 and I've had the same problem. it is a "known issue" with the 350z. Most(meaning a good) dealerships will know as soon as you describe the problem to them. The problem is the fuel sending unit(s).

There are two in your tank, one is attached to the fuel pump assembly on one side, and then the other is a separate unit on the other side. I had to have both of mine replaced. They will run about $80 each + labor time (should be about 1-2 hours worth)+ diagnosis charge at the dealership

I was NOT in warranty, so I don't know if it will be covered on your vehicle, but just be prepared to spend the money when getting it fixed. It should cost you around the $300 mark.

Here is a breakdown:



The parts that I had replaced are in the red boxes:

(2) Fuel Sending Units: Part number 25060Y [and] 25060YA
(2) O-Rings: Part number 17342



If you have to have the actual fuel pump assembly replaced (pending that it is damaged) then look at spending quite a bit more. Luckily I did not.

BTW- I see you are in Tampa.... Go to Autoway Nissan of Brandon and talk to John Wismer. Tell him I sent you! They are great and will take care of you. I actually just had all this replaced a week or two ago.

Wow! Thanks for the very informative response this explains EVERYTHING. But I had my fuel pump upgraded when I installed my TN kit. So I'm gonna ask S&R first and see what they think. Thanks again!!!

ohhhh... hehe. I dunno if that would void your warranty or not (with the upgraded fuel pump) but apparently this is a pretty simple fix labor skill wise.... S&R might even be able to do it for you. if so.... go buy your own parts.

If it is actually the pump that is the problem then it would be covered 5/60. If it is a fuel level sensor then it is just 3/36.

Same prob I ran into. And the dealership that supposibly took care of me said it could be the fuel pump or the actual gauge. If it was the gas gauge they would half to take off the dash and etc and it would cost over 2k. So pretty much im stuck with a 2005 Z with 45k miles and a broke gas gauge. 2 bad I dont have a nissan dealership around here that will help me out

Tim the OP said that he had an aftermarket fuel pump installed in his Z. If the problem is with the fuel pump I guarantee that Nissan will not replace it under warranty.
