Yep, I still have the points to spare. Between their products and a OS Giken LSD, I am hoping the lap times fall quite a bit. I am really begining to DRIVE this car, learning to get the right slip angle and make it dance around the turn. I couldnt of chosen a better platform, the Z is just so predictable and fun to drive.

 

I just started noticing how easy it is to get the feel of effectively "finshing corners" in this car. On motorcycles it takes a lot of effort and time to feel comfortable, and in my past cars it wasn't an option (low to mid HP FWD).

Not much to update...instructing at an HPDE event this weekend at HMS so ill get some practice in. I ordered a OS Giken LSD from the guys at Z1 this week so that will be in for next season. My next race is January 8th-9th at HMS with NASA for the season opener.

After the first NASA race of the year, we should have the new aero parts on. I also have to send my JIC coilovers to the factory to have them revalved and rebuilt for stiffer springs to support the new downforce. Pics and videos to come. =)

 

So in your opinion, at what speeds is a wing necessary for our car? (I assume that's the aero stuff you plan on doing over the winter?)

I didnt' go too fast, but turning slightly around a big bend at 120mph at Mid-Ohio the car didn't feel as planted so I was wondering if I need to do more aero (like diffusers and stuf)

 

Yea shamu style rear wing and front splitter with air dam. As with most production cars, after 110-120mph, the car begins to generate lift. I dont know the exact numbers on this car but its close. The wing made by Fulcrum aero is very efficient.

Here is their table. Running the wing at 1-2 degrees of aOa creates very little drag.

 

Got some practice in the rain this weekend, so that was...well fun, kinda...I guess. I like racing in the rain but the street tires we put on just suck. They are some high performance Hankooks, not sure of the model. Spun once, but so was everyone else. Not my first spin in the rain but this one left my freshly repaired and painted quarter panel about 5 feet from DOOM. Next event is a weekend of sprint races at HMS with NASA Florida, and the OS Giken LSD will be in.

 

What clutch setup are you running?

 

Just a JWT w/ flywheel.

 

Have you considered running a OS Giken single disk? Saves some weight and should help rev faster.

 

Yea, Ill throw one in when this one dies, but this thing has been holding strong for 3 years. We actually just had it out because we had a carbonetics twin disc sitting in the shop but something was wrong with it and didnt work right. The JWT looked just fine. Do you run the OS Giken clutch?

 

No. I was going to go with a custon twin disk but opted for a competition 4 puck. Haven't installed it yet. I have to go custom since I drive an altima se-r. I can use the same clutches as the Z's but not the flywheel.

 

OSG also makes some terrific clutches. Their twin disc hold as much power as the Carbonetics triple, and at a lower price point. It's our new favorite clutch these days....and it still very streetable.

Good videos! We will be down at Sebring again for a Chin Motorsports event on Jan 21-22. Any plans?

Also, we found that with perfect upshifts, and rev-matched downshifts you can get that latest CD009 transmission to hold together pretty well for a couple of years of racing. But I wish this gearbox was more durable, because you really have to treat it perfectly for it to last. From a racing longevity standpoint, this is not a good.

One more note: Have you switched to solid or semi-solid motor, transmission, and diff mounts? This can really help the transmission shift cleanly and stay together, especially on bumpy tracks like Sebring.

 

I use the OS Single in my car and love it. It is ~27.5lbs or so with the aluminum cover as a unit.

It was almost too pretty to hide away....

 

I wont make the Chin event that weekend, as of now at least. Would a car with my power see any benefit to a OSG twin over a OSG single? I am putting in the SPL rear diff mount with the OSG LSD. Thats the only driveline bushing I have done. The car has all the suspension bushings replaced, though I forget the brand. Sharif, Are you going to RA in March?

 

My car makes 280whp, and the OS single had a little bit of trouble with launching on drag radials. In terms of hpde/auto-x it has been rock solid. I wouldn't go to the twin unless you plan to go over the ~350wtq.....perhaps a bit less. The combination of the OS Single and LSD will likely make for a whole new feeling.....

 

Also, I know Adam from Z1 has been using the single in his car for years as well at 320whp.

 

For NA power, the single is more than enough. But doesnt help to future proof yourself.

You should consider the engine mounts and trans mounts. You will be pleasantly surprised with how much better the car will shift.

I love reading this thread. You are living my dream. I want to race my car like that one day on every track in Florida. I just don't have money to mod and pay for track days. I do afew autox events but I really want to get on sebring and pbir.

 

PBIR isnt worth coming down from Orlando for IMO. Its a decent track since its brand new and the pavement is smooth, and its also 10 minutes from the shop. Sebring should be on any car enthusiasts bucket list. I think there are some clubs that have autocrosses during the track days, so maybe you could attend their autocross and check out the track scene. I think its PCA that does these kind of events.
