Mike/Sam-

What is this 'test letter' and what does it mean?

Have you guys already done some sort of lab testing with CARB and so far things look good and hence a letter is generated or you have yet to do the lab testing for CARB?

Basically, the test letter is the green light to do the lab testing...one of the final steps for approval. In other words, we're almost there.

Okay. Well the best of luck to you. I've been contemplating the future as I've outgrown my Turbonetics set-up and I've thought about doing a build and matching it with some kind of FI system.

Some delays on GTM's side. The guy that they use to machine the brackets is MIA so they have to find an alternative route. I'm also leaving to Singapore/Korea for 1.5month in two weeks so hopefully by the time I come back things will be peachier.

No new information, still waiting on GTM. Called them last week and they said that they have 3 out of the 4 brackets complete and from there on it's smoother sailing. Still hoping to get it back in March.

should we expect pretty much identical graphs with the exception of a little more torque?

Being that the DE is maxed out by just about every kit available for it, I'm looking to determine where this will differ...

Comparing this to the VHR or HR, the DE will definitely be a little different but it's hard to speculate exactly how much different until the results comes out.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by maxed out by all the kits? There is a guy on here that just recently broke 600whp on his vortech.

Sorry, I should have specified.... stock block DE's. Being limited to about 400lb-ft before failure is imminent... some have gone at lower levels than that. With, what is a relatively low ceiling (by todays standards) and a plethora of kits that can punch through that ceiling... what I was trying to get at was specualtion on the pros of this kit over the others for a stock block DE.

Not trying to thread crap at all.... I love seeing a new development for my older platform and I'm stoked that it's coming from GTM, Im just curious what the "ways I'm better" pamplet might read.

The only worthwhile SC kit to compare it to is the vortech and you can break it down into two comparisons, the compressor itself and the kit's features. So this is from the top of my head.

Compressor differences
Pros
-quieter compared to any of the vortech ones
-comes with its dedicated oil cooler.
-doesn't share engine oil so doesn't heat up your engine oil (the V3 doesn't share engine oil as well but the V2 does)
-slightly smaller dimensions for a same flowing vortech
-faster build up of boost so much more midrange torque. though from my research this property does change slightly depending on which rotrex model you go with though since it'll shift the pressure ratio a bit.
-check the attached gragh courtesey of crtan77. this is comparing a vortech kit with the HKS kit that has GTS8550 which similar in design to the C38-81 (the one i have is the bigger one, c38-91).
Cons
-first installation on the DE, but GTM has a few on the HR and VHR
-hasn't been around as long as vortech
-not as many good aftermarket options
-less compressor options that are interchangeable
-compressor oil is more expensive then engine oil and the vortech oil, but you seldomly change it out. Regarding that matter the V3 self lubricated one requires a dismount of the compressor to perform the oil service.

Kit comparison
Pros
-Comes with much larger intercooler
-Comes with fuel injectors and pump
-Comes with the reverse cylinder cooling found on the HR (stabilizes the cylinders temp that are closest to the firewall)
-No jack shaft, so only one serpentine belt (but this can also be viewed as a bad thing since you can really customize the drive ratio on the vortech because of this)
-No cog belts
-Compressor is mounted at the bottom closer to the FMIC inlet (less piping and also more stealthy)
-Auto belt tensioner (reduces belt snap)
-Better belt wrap then the vortech
-Air filter location is at a better location and is not sandwhiched
Cons
-more involed installation
-more expensive kit, but much more complete out of the box (so it might turn out cheaper or about the same at the end)
-limited upgrade options in the future for swapping compressor

Maybe Sam or Mike from GTM will add or correct on some of the things I said. HTH.

Very informative post... those are the kind of things I was looking for....especially the improved midrange performance vs the Vortech.

Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to see what comes of this.

so wait, the first page says this is for the DE. So is this or is this not for a DE platform?
