Default Front Speakers Irreplaceable? Bah!

I was planning on replacing the front speakers in my Z (stock system w/o bose or Nav) and wanted to take advantage of a deal Crutchfield was having on Infinitis. I wanted to put some components up front and also replace the rears behind the seats. The representative told me that not only will the Infinitis not fit in the doors, but that they don't even carry ANY speaker that will because of the depth being unable to accommodate the magnets. I don't know much about speakers, but I find it very hard to believe that I can't replace my front speakers with an aftermarket set. Have any of you heard of anything like this?

Thanks.

i think theres at least 100 people here including myself that have perfect 6.1s up front. it might take a bit of fuddling to get them to fit but nothing outrageous.

I put Crystal Mobile Sound components up there and the drivers were about twice the size of the stock ones so I had to completely redo the front grills. Hold on, I think I ahve a pic.

That was it before paint.

It is my understanding that with a 1" spacer most stock speakers will fit in there. I put MB Quartz and the installer actually cut two wood rings 1 inch deep and thats it.

yeah that would probably do it. I just molded mine outside of the door panel because... well honestly i didn't think of doing a spacer til after i had already started

yeah, a spacer probably would have been the easiest way to go, but I like the unique custom look my doors have now, especially once I get them painted (monday)

I talked with an installer today about the front speakers and the amount of space back there, and he recommended a pair of 6 3/4"
for the front and that there is more than enough space there for them, he has done them in 2 other 350 Z's.

Nazar? So you guys are all saying that if I go out and buy Infiniti 6 3/4" components for the front and bring them to a competent installer, everything will be ok?

Any 6 1/2 in. speaker will work in the front cubby holes really. They all come with their own mounting brackets anyway. The spacers you put it can be adjusted to fit whatever speaker you choose.

Just about everyone on this forum has replaced the fronts. Mine had particularly large magnets. I used the original speaker modified to be a spacer. Even then I don't hink there is much clearance between the window and the magnet, so I believe you will need to use a spacer rgardless.

I love my Crystal Mobile Sounds, and I have MB Quarts in my M3 and they are also incredible.
Also, a lot of people on this board are raving about the Infinitys.

Any of these wouldn't be bad choices.

If you have shallow pockets and want something that provides pretty good bang for the buck, I installed some Kicker components for my friend in his 3000GT and they sound decent.

One more thing - I have also heard of a lot of people just forgetting about replacing the stock rear speakers and just doing components up front and subs in the rear. Is it worth putting good speakers in the rear deck or will the subs just overpower them making them irrelevant?

I wasn't able to fit my Infinity Kappas in the door, so I used MB quarts in door and behind seat then replaced rear mb's with my kappas all for a good fit. Amps were the fun install I bought the smallest box for my subs and when installed my latch doesnt close unless i remove stock hatch plastics. These cars are fun out of a small two seater (MR2) pain to work on and into another

hehe. Thats why Im building my box myself to make sure it has exactly the specs I want it to have
Also, im putting the subs in FRONT of the Z bar instead of behind, contrary to what most people do on this board. Therefore I shouldnt have any problem with my hatch closing. The only problems I may have is headaches from 12" idMAX subs being 2 feet from my head. Im doing a custom motorized amp rack behind the Z bar and mounting my capacitators (4 of them) under the Z bar where people usually put their subs.

Yeah, as soon as I finish painting my door panels I am starting construction on the box. Building the sub chambers first. Since I am building them out of fiberglass resin to have an exact fit in the location, I am doing the resining in the car itself. Its gonna take a while to get the whole thing done, but it should be well worth it in the end.

I made a set of spacers out of 3/4" MDF.

Forget the rear speakers and use the money towards a set of better front components. I like MB Quart, Focal, and JL Audio. Infiniti anything isn't worth the time and effort IMO.
