What about the music?
Ok, how about a thread on something other than hardware. As they say.....GIGO
What are you all feeding your audiophile grade systems with (mp3, mp4, AAC, WMA, Sirius)? Do you notice a difference in musical format quality between compressed music and actual CD?

I'm getting a 40gb iPod for Xmas this year and I plan on ripping any of my CD's to 192 kbps Mp3 files. I've read a lot of about AAC (MPEG-4) and even though they claim that a 128kbps AAC sounds better than a 160kbps MP3, a lot of tests have proven otherwise. I go for quality and compatability. That's why I stick to the mp3 format. And 192kbps CBR is the way to go for me.
As far as CD vs. 192 kbps mp3, I have never noticed a difference. Now, the sound system in my Z right now is stock (upgraded BOSE) but my previous car, my Mustang, had quite a bit done as far as aftermarket amplifiers, speakers, subwoofers, and headunit, and I still couldn't tell a difference.

Some people can hear it some can't. Some systems will magnify the difference and some mask it.
There is definately a difference with squashed mp3 files. I can't even stand listening to them.

Thanks guys, I notice a degraded sound quality when I listen to 128kbps mp3 files. I can't stand listening to them, although I could before I upgraded my audio system. I am looking for solutions that will provide me hours of music in a relatively small format (a few CD's, a changer, or a Keg) and with near CD quality reproduction. After all it is a waste to spend thousands on audio equipment if we are feeding low quality music to it no??
How about Sirius radio..good quality?

Good point, real CD's are too expensive..especially considering you can get a DVD for few bucks more. Thanks Stu..oh and I hope your twin Korean girlfriend's are doing ok ;-)

224kps and above and I cant tell the difference in my car. Road noise, and the stupid hiss my deck puts out covers up most things.

What do you mean hiss? I hear some at high volumes on classic-rock CD's like Eagles Hotel California but I think it's just the fact they recorded it before there was such thing as Dolby or DBX.
Yeah it's funny how no matter how much money we spend there always seems to be issues. I have a $5k big screen tv at home with sound so screwed up I would rather listen to my little 25" some times.
