Default Custom Speaker Install Questions

First off, Please look at the speakers I am trying to install. They are Polk/MOMOs and the grill on them is so classy, I'd really like to get these grilles to show up.: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-dsa77bx...&display=L#Tab

Do you guys have any suggestions for mounting the speakers on the doors and rear speaker-area so that I can use these grilles?

Unless you are up for some serious modifications you won't be able to use them (grills)..or at least not get them to look like they do in the picture.

I have seen some people use custom speaker grills for the rear 6.5's..but the type you can't see through as they aren't actually connected to the speakers..just attached to the outer panel and replacing ghe stock grills.

Yeah, in my setup, you would be able to use those grills in the front but not in the rear. The problem is because the stock grill and the stock speakers are not aligned, the speaker is actually lower than the grill by several inches. Doesnt make too much sense really, but oh well.

For the most part, this is true. I did these "serious modifications" on my front panels and I am using my Crystal Mobile grills that came with my components. Not because they look particularly classy, just because they fit the track I am using perfectly
Here is a glimpse of the type of modding you would have to consider:

Of course, that is not a finished product in the picture, but the point of the picture is to illustrate the setup. The new grill has to be mounted where the old stock grill was, and because the stock grill was curved and not flat, you are going to need to do a good bit of customization to achieve this. I did it by using fiberglass and raising the area w/ the stock spacer they gave me.

Ok,
now you guys are starting to worry me about getting these speakers in the door at all X_x
http://www.cardomain.com/item/POLMMC6500?vq_id=none
Top Mounting depth is 2.69"
Bottom Mounting depth is 2.81"
do you guys know if these are going to fit the doors?

BTW - nice install Srivero, you should sell me your doors (hah) - looks like a lot more work than I can do and fiberglass = death of me.

Someone else used the covers that come with the MB Quart 6.5 to cover the rears. You couldn't see through the covers so it hid the fact that the speaker was actually sitting about an inch back and lower than the grill.

You might have a problem with depth in the front. I believe my speakers have a smaller depth than that and there is not much clearance between them and the glass. But this could also be due to the fact that I moved the speaker up and over a bit to get it centered a little better with the opening. I think you will be able to make it work, but it may require a little tweaking..nothing as difficult as fiberglassing though ;-)

Yeah. I do things the hard way, and then I smack myself on the forehead for days on end for it. You should have seen when the adventure I went through molding 7" monitors into the sunvisors in my M3. By the end, I just scrapped the entire stock sunvisor and built one from scratch out of fiberglass. Came out great, but took me like 6 months for the entire project
