Good luck, post pics along the way. The door panels are strong enough, and with only 2.5" mounting depth, I believe it can be done. It holds my BA Z6 and the panels without a problem. I believe the Z6 has a deeper mouting depth than 2.5.

Where are you planning on mounting that bad boy?

right where the stock hole is. Im thinking Im going to have to take a saw to the door to get the speaker to sit back a little bit. Im going to try to center it as best as possible in the door panel for the best sound.

I plan on taking lots of pictures

Also, if you look at the door panel, the sound enters through a 6.5" hole. Much bigger, and the soundwaves get trapped behind the panel.

With that said, I went with the DLS Iridium 6.5's, and they hit lower and with more punch than any other midbass I've ever heard. SImply amazing. I have them hp'ed at 45 hz, and they did fine.
Yah, whats up Hoopties

I have the DLS IR6.3's as well .. I hear the midbass is insane, so I have those .. passed on the 8.3's.

Then I have this new problem .. I finally got my hands on Focal 165W3's .. I'll probably stick w/the IR's tho, b/c 3in vs 4in .. more footroom is nice.

Mated w/2 10 v3 IDMax's .. should be nice when I finally stop commuting and BUY the damn Z

dream2reality is right, anything bigger than the grill opening will not work!!!stick w/6inchers and seal the $#%$ out of the door will give you a much better response.

Well, if you're going to go ahead with 9" mids, I hope you're going to reconstruct the door panel and ready to cut a lot of metal. When I had my install done (would have done myself, but no time as I was still new at my job), my installer spent 14 hours trying different trim rings, angles, ideas, etc, and determined that because of how the panel is shaped, that 8's (not even 9"s) wouldn't work. But hey, prove me wrong

Ogredave, it's a really long story...heh. Do you have instant messenger? If so, email me your AIM name and I'll give you my semi-sob story (frankchiarello@yahoo.com).
