I wonder if I was to buy a set of phoenix gold 9ms(morel made drivers) If I could get them to fit in my doors.
any thoughts, its been so long sense I had the doors off my z.

Weight honestly has no bearing, to a certain limit. If you are putting 8s and up you will have very solid mounting or a very poor install
9's are pretty crazy .. I was thinking about 8's but I've heard some people prefer the 6.5 Iridums over the 8's, so I stuck w/the 6.5's.
You will need to glass either 8 or 9, though. I don't know anything about a metal plate in the car, but that'd be convienient

I've got Dynaudio 7's in the door, but the mounting depth on those is pretty slim. The weight shouldn't be an issue as long as you secure them well. I think the hardest part will be creating an enclosure for them, or maybe you planned to leave them free-air. Good luck and post picks

Hey, did you ever resolve the noise problem from your head unit?

Hey, did you ever resolve the noise problem from your head unit?
I still hadnt worked out the head unit hiss. I am going back to Texas in about a month. Hopefully I will have the problem fixed by then.
I seem to have the same hiss problem now that I got a stonger amp. With the volume turned to 0 and the gain set pretty high, I have a slight hiss. I can hear it pretty loud though in musical recordings that are just vocal and no instruments. But then again it may have a lot to do with the original recording. Whatever happened to noise reduction (DBX, dolby)?
What advantage do you see in mounting a 9" on the door?
Honestly, I would like to know what benefit you can get from this vs. a nice high excursion 6" or 7"
I can't find any info on these at all online .. please link me somewhere...
I would assume these to be a neo-inverted setup ... kinda like the ID illusion drivers ... not a bad driver, but they are physically limited to very little cone travel, not allowing for higher spls, negating the benefit of the larger cone. At the same time they are worse off since they cannot play very high at all (frequency-wise).
Also ... mounting a 9" on the door is not only about weight of the driver, it is about vibration from the moving mass of the system. Simply put, the coil and cone will weight significantly more than what the door would normally experience .. I would be careful with that.

Gains: The mid bass response of these speakers is outstanding. They will play from 40(considering 60)-150 cycles easily and cleanly. My A/d/s coaxials will handle 150-20000 cycles which are in my kick panels. This combination will give me a clean flat response, with the ability to squeeze out more mid bass if I so desire.
Im not worried about the vibration just yet. I am confident in my ability to secure the driver and prevent vibrations.
Orange: PG Xenon10d2, F3: 32.99Hz
Magenta: Ti Elite 9m, F3: 78.71Hz
graph of the 9m vs a normal sub woofer. It does well

Thats a nice pretty graph there, but it is just the "standard" for bossbox to output when it has no input for inductive rise in the driver causing poor upper end response ...
Do you have the Le values of this driver? that would help to better portray the freq response on this graph, cause as it shows it, its fairly inaccurate.
Honestly, if you will be using all active XOs, and steeply crossing over around 150, you will have a great setup there.
It really looks like a good canidate for a lower/mid ... since it can work in tiny enclosures
I just think it to be too much work to get nice sound. To each his own though

I dont have the Le values for the driver. A Phoenix Gold employee did the graph for a completely unrelated discussion. The graph isnt too inaccurate regardless if the inductive rise of the coil. Im not too worried about upper end response.
I the 9s will be actively crossed over in bandpass mode from 60-150 with a 24db slope.
It should be fun, nobody has ever done it before.
Im tired of hearing about the classic 2 and 3 way systems. Somebody needs to step out and do something a little different

Well, I tried having 8's installed when I had my z (ogredave may remember me from ECA as hooptiesaregreat). A pro installer said no chance unless I cut the hell out of my doors. Also, if you look at the door panel, the sound enters through a 6.5" hole. Much bigger, and the soundwaves get trapped behind the panel.
With that said, I went with the DLS Iridium 6.5's, and they hit lower and with more punch than any other midbass I've ever heard. SImply amazing. I have them hp'ed at 45 hz, and they did fine.
