Pioneer AVC-RGB1 and Factory NAV ?
I really need some advice from some professional car a/v/nav installers as to the direction I need to take, and whether I am somewhere out in left field with this approach. I am considering this Pioneer convertor for a mod that will allow me to play DVDs/PS2 games/etc over the factory nav system. I know that others in here are doing similar mods, but I am looking to find a cost effective solution to the factory nav system not doing dvd/vcd.
I have done a little research, and it looks like Pioneer has discontinued this part (AVC-RGB1). It was designed to convert composite signals to RGB NTSC signals for use with flat panel monitors (or basically headrest lcds). Pioneer continues to make the monitors, but has discontinued the production of these convertors. When they were in production they retailed for $140. I think if I can find one for less than $100, it will be a worthwhile test to see how good they are, and if they will work for this application. Some of the other alternatives, such as the nav-tv approach cost around $300 for the composite to rgb convertor, others cost even more. Keep in mind, that this handles the video ONLY! You still need to rf modulate the audio over a radio station for full a/v functionality. From what I have seen/read the Pioneer GEX-P7000tv is the best alternative for this. I plan on integrating my PS2 as my digital source temporarily...I may make it a permanent install if I like the results.
Any responses are welcomed here, and I would like to hear from anyone with past Pioneer RGB1 experiences...
Thanks!
