Stereo installation problems?
Here is a full frontal shot taken from the back seat... (right!). The picture is zoomed to full size, edge to edge. No loss of picture whatsoever. The fit is most excellent. For copyright purposes, the image on the screen is from Pearl Harbor.
Thanx, Pacco.
The DVD combined with the surround sound is a mindbender!
I put in 4 Inifinity Kappa 63.5's which are 3-way speakers which eliminated the need to deal with the tweeter seperates. I just disabled the factory tweets. The birightness with the kappa is just fine to my ears and I have had many compliments. Although quite acceptable, I would like to have the midrange boosted a smidgeon. I believe this can be accomplished with adjustments on the Kicker 700.5 that I am using and I hope to address that issue sometime in the next week or so.
No problem with fit. Spacers were used to clear the window travel. Be sure to use sound dampener such as dynamat.
Good Z'in.

For various reasons, I can't use the space under the crossbar so I have to use the space behind the drivers seat. Exactly what kind of enclosure did you build that was so bad? Did you use a 1.2 cubic space with 3/4 inch MDF? What makes you assume that there is NO way to use this space effectively?

Zeattle,
Enjoyed reading your tread. Sounds like you had a great road trip. I also, have been looking for a Navigation solution for my Z. Looks like the Pioneer is a workable option. Love the monitor fit. My question is did the audio interface to the base Bose system cause any problems? Does the sound cut out work when nav comands are provided. Was there any odd thing about the hook up or was it straight forward?
How do you control the Nav. Did you set up the voice activation system or do you use the remote. I notice a small notch cut in the left vertical side of the monitor mount. Is that for just the monitor controls?
I am considering the Kenwood system for Nav. KNA-DV2100. Because of the built in TV tuner. But I will have to replace the base Bose system. (it uses touch screen) Did you look at the Kenwood as an option?
Z-ing in OHIO.

Interface to factory HU went smoothly. Here's what you need to purchase:
Pioneer AVIC90DVD
Pioneer CD-TS36 Voice Guidance Speaker w/ IR Sensor
Pioneer CD-RGB26P Connection Box
FM Modulator
Up to 7" Monitor
The above components yield the following:
Audio for Nav is played through the CD-TS36 and, in my install, does not mute the stereo, if it is playing. I would prefer that it did, however, I can live with manually lowering the volume when the sweet dulcet tones of the Nav lady bark out driving commands.
Audio for DVD is played through the FM Modulator and in my opinion produces excellent sound through the stereo.
Video to many LCD monitors (including Farenheit and Microvision) is enabled with the RGB Connection Box.
A microphone included with the AVIC90DVD is mounted near top of windshield and allows option of Voice Activation or manual Remote Control Unit.
Notch to left of screen is indeed for the separate Monitor IR Control Unit. Use rarely for adjusting the screen - color, brightness, tint, zoom, etc. The notch can be created by using a Dremel tool.
I liked the feature set of Pioneer better than Kenwood. Also, I believe the pricing was better. Also I did not want to deal with finger prints - have that problem with my laptop. The factory HU works extremely well with my aftermarket Nav/DVD and upgraded Infinity/Kicker speaker system.
Final note regarding Monitor. Go with a 7" screen. It will cost a bit more, but, you'll appreciate the larger image (easier to read map) and the better resolution.
Best of luck.

Bjmnzzzz,
Congrats on everything. You are my hero. You are the first person i know to get an aftermarket dvd player with your bose system to work. But correct me if iam wrong. Did you have to rip out all of your bose speakers? Because i want to keep the factory bose speakers and just put a dvd player and screen in. The other problem is that orginally i didn't order the nav, will this hender anything. This might have been stated in earlier post but i have yet to see it.
So i am suspecting about 400 for install, over here in jersey, so i uess a grand total of $800. Correct me if am wrong

Thanks for the kind words, Megatron.
I did not have to replace the Bose Speakers, however... similar to most "factory" speakers, they were not high enough quality for my ears and I was concerned with blowing the speakers with the increased power of the Kicker amp.
I've not tracked success of the factory AMP upgrade so I don't know how well the TSB corrected the problem. Perhaps others can comment on the post recall stereo performance on the Touring model.
Nav would certainly not be necessary. DVD and a 7" screen should work quite well.
Check out pricing for you components at Etronics.Com. I found them to be highly competitive on price and availability and after sale customer service (important).
Best of luck. Enjoy the ride.
PS - Check out the Pearl Harbor DVD for GREAT! battle scenes and surround sound! It's the maximum utmost!

excuse me for my ignorance, but what is the Pioneer CD-TS36 Voice Guidance Speaker w/ IR Sensor for? I know what everything is need for, but don't know what the voice guidance system is for.
I wasn't going to put an amp in. I was going to leave the bose stock, and wanted to and a dvd player and screen.
How long did the install take?

The Pioneer CD-TS36 Voice Guidance Speaker w/ IR Sensor is only needed when pairing the Pioneer AVIC90DVD with a non-Pioneer screen.
Install for Nav System, Screen, Speakers, Amp, Val One, Cell mods took about 2 days of shop time. I don't have a break out of the time.
Good luck.

Eric at Vegas Auto Sound finished the installation this morning. The stereo sounds great. The head unit, which has no EQ, may be the next thing I replace. I used all Alpine components, including a 450 Watt five channel amp. After bringing the car home and examining the interior, I've found no scratches or any sign the car had been taken apart. No rattles at all. I highly recommend them, but make sure Eric does the work.
Glad to hear that you are highly pleased with the work at Vegas Auto Sound. Eric is definitely "da Man!". He is the one that replaced my fried Farenheit with the 7" Microvision and is the ultimate installation pro. Trust your car to Eric, folks. You'll not be sorry.
ZZZtop, enjoy the tunes! Looks like a terrific audio system. Keep on Z'in.

I think this thread answers some of the current questions regarding a Pioneer DVD/NAV system and a Farenheit screen.
These Microvision screens are hard to find around.
Anybody hear of PowerAcoustik?Microvision monitors
