Default Crayz installation quote

Ok I went to my local stereo shop today to get a quote on my system.
Here is what i am supplying
500/1
300/2
12w6v2
headunit
focal components

Here is what he is supplying and installing
Dynamat
Cables
box for the sub
installation of amps, deck, speakers and sub box

He sais its a 4-5 day job and it will cost me $1600. Remember this is not a special custom show style colored fiberglass/plexiglass show stopper system.
Its just a clean looking 350z install.
Am I just very uneducated about stereo install or this **** is out of his mind?

how much dynomat? It could be 50 bucks for a door kit or 300 for the entire car.
cables lets say an amp kit runs from 50-90 bucks.
Box is it just a regular box or a custom box thats anywhere from 75 - lets say 300 you said its not a show system or anything but a clean install

install of amp, deck and speakers etc. Well how are they installing the amp? simple bolt it down or making some sort of amp rack? That could be 50 - 300

deck 25ish for the trim and 15ish for the harness and 50 for the install of the deck

Focal speakers lets say 50-75

total...on the low end is about 365ish high end is 1155ish
You have to let us know what exactly they are doing for $1600.

I can take you to a place that did my install, click on my sig for links to the pics. They did my last 3 cars, and they have done a few cars for members on here as well. Call me tomorrow on my cell if you want me to go with you to get a quote 818-679-3959 teddy.

Seems like a bit much unless they are doing a *huge* amount of custom work. I had a lot of work done (but not nearly as much as BoostTed up there), and my install was about $1200. You can see pics of my install if you follow the link in my sig. It included the headunit, lcd screen in the cubby hole, mids in the doors and tweaters in the sail panels, nav unit in one of the mail slots, and a pretty extensive custom amp and sub install in the trunk where the spare tire used to be. Of course, I brought in my own big roll of Brown Bread (similar to Dynamat Extreme) that I got off Ebay.

It could be that your quote includes all the Dynamat for the job. That stuff can get really expensive when you buy it from local retailers, especially if you're buying enough to do your entire interior. You can pick up a 50 sq-ft roll of Brown Bread on Ebay for about $100. I had a 70 sq-ft roll, and it was enough to do my entire interior, from the doors to the floors and all the way to the back of the trunk... and I still had some left over.

I told the guy that I was looking to spend about $450 for this work. Dynamatting was for the doors only and if thats a problem I can get craploads of dynamat for about $100, thats no problem for me. I think he wanted to hit me hard at first so when he tells me that hell do a deal for me and do the isntall for $800 i ll think i am getting 1600 dollars work done for $800 and jump on it. Well I got custom fiberglass box and 2 amp install on my s2000 for $250, this time it also includes some dynamatting cdreciver and speaker install so I dont think i am beeing unreasonable when I ask to get it done for $450. Boosted, I couldent find your pics of your ride but ill give you a call tomorrow anyways maybe ill come check it out, so we can talk to your fols at that stereo shop.

Oh and exact work they are doing is this, 2 350z z door dynamatting, amp kit for 500/1 and 300/2, custom ( how custom can it be pretty much under rear tower box) subwoofer box, installation of the sub and box, installation of 2 front component speakers and installation of cd reciver, I mean by all means I am no expert but i can install the front speakers , dynamat the doors and put the cd reciver , I did it before, no big deal, however the box needs to be done in a shop for sure, and I dont think i can wire and amp.

It's a 4-5 day job? That's bull. Everything mentioned above can be hammered out in one day NP. You are getting ripped off. Even worse if he uses a Dynamat substitute.

These installation quotes are discouraging as hell.

Anybody know where I can to and pay a few hundred bucks to learn how to do this stuff correctly? A tech school of some sort? Hell i know it'll pay for itself in the long run.

$800 may be an ok price if its a place you trust and know will do good work... but hard to trust that guy after trying to shaft you with $1600

Depends on what he's using. There are definitely competing brands of deadener that are at least as good as Dynamat and can be had for less money. I've got nothing against Dynamat... but it's definitely not the only good option out threre.

Come on guys, 4-5 days is pretty reasonable if we're talking about a serious job with a lot of custom work, especially at a busy shop. Perhaps the installer has something a lot bigger in mind than Andy does. They would obviously need to clear up that discrepancy before any work gets done, but I can see that being why the installer's quote is so high. He might be imagining all sorts of grand ideas for this install.

On the other hand, you're all right that if it's indeed just some simple bolt-in parts and such that he's just going to slap in the trunk, then it shouldn't take nearly that long. It really all depends on what the installer has in mind, and the level of quality he's going for.

nah man, there is not a lot of custom work. The only thing thats custom is the box, but hell man every sub box, that does not come from the factory is custom.

What shop did you go to? If it is an authorized dealer / store i think prices is just right specially if the shop does compete in iasca and similar constest.
But for $1600 yah i think that's way to much. If you don't mind driving to
La Cresenta you will save almost half.
This is the shop: Audio Advice 3634 Foothill Blvd. La Cresenta, CA 91214
Tel: 818-248-4663

I got a quote for $2100 for all of this:

2 - TRU Technology amp 2.100
2 - IDv3 8 inch subs in custom stealth box under the rear strut bar (or IDv3 10)
install of Alpine HU plus DD kit, alpine ipod module, install of DLS iridiums in doors plus mdo spacer, dynamat doors, install tweeters in a pillar (mod if needed plus tuning), dynamat trunk, stinger wires, cables & rca's, and tuning
for the whole system. I seems expensive but if your getting it done from
somebody good and dependable.

Other shop i went to will charge $1000 for the install for a week, plus one 10" sub, custom box, dynamat and all the wires, cables, rca's, kits, etc....

I can still not get the amps and subs from him and maybe save a little from
buying it from somewhere else, ofcourse if you buy it authorized it is always
retail.

jreiter.......who did your system? how much did it cost you the TRU 2.100 and the stealth box in your trunk?

It's a lot easier than you think. Just a matter of not being squeamish about ripping your car apart. My brother does this work on the side, let me know if you are interested.
