Default Use short screws when installing front door speakers!

I used a one inch spacer for my 6.5" references, and put 4 sheetmetal screws that were about 3 inches long.

To make a long story short, my passenger's window stopped working.

I took it to the dealer and they charged me $422 to replace the regulator and change the screws to shorter ones...........

Just becareful and use short screws when installing your door speakers.

Uhh.. while that is good advice, did they SHOW you where you punctured the old regulator? IIR there was nothing behind the speakers to puncture!

You sure they didnt "screw" you instead?

yea iirc correclt the regulator is not behind the speaker. if you installed the speakers with the windows down (which should be done so you know the speaker magnet doesn't hit the glass) you could have hit the glass with the screw, but i dont think you could have hit the regulator. then again i did my install quite a long time ago now and could be wrong.

Perhaps the the screws kept rubbing the bottom of the window; causing stress on that regulator which in turn caused it to fail?

Whatever it was........i feel so jiippped.

I would also.

Nissan regulators are a known failure point. If the screw was rubbing on the glass there will be a mark, and it shouldn't have wore out the regulator.

Were there any syptoms of failure (such as the window going down by itself when you tried to raise it?)

I'm sure if you go back now they will tell you they threw the regulator away, but I'm pretty sure by law they HAVE to show you the replaced parts, unless you signed a waiver.

I might suggest for all those that are going to be installing their own speakers, use the oem speaker cut it out and use the base of it as a spacer for new speaker, should eliminate the problem boma had. Of coarse use short screws to anchor speakers to base and stock screws to go back into door.

I noticed when I auto-up'ed my windows they would sometimes go back down to 3/4's up after touching the top. I was thinking this was a nissan flaw.

I do need to go back and check my windows, I have tinted them it the screws were rubbing it would have definately scratched them up.
