Default Gauges not functioning!!

So I finally went ahead w/the install of my new Alpine HU, and man was that ever a task. I really didn't think it would be so difficult, but I guess it's been a while since I last worked on a car stereo. Anyways, after severing with a screwdriver that ribbon at the bottom which connects to the heater/AC etc.., I finally got the unit in and seems to be working fine. The only catch...the gauge meters above the steering wheel aren't working at all! I mean all the lights are on..."CHECK ENGINE, etc..." But that's it! Drove to work today by ear, and rev of the engine! Does anyone know why this might be? I think it's bc I left out that white heater/AC box compartment, since I planned to do a little more work on it this weekend, but really wasn't sure. Anyways, please help!!

Well, It sounds like you did some damage to at least one of the wires in that ribbon. I wouldn't drive the car in that condition anymore. Call your local stealership and see what the replacement ribbon will cost you.

I know this is a stupid question, but did you hook up the wire plug that plugs in near the gages. It is a plug that you must release when you pull the gage and radio panel from the dash, (it is at the very top of the panel near the gages).

That would be my first thought as well. Look and see if you forgot to plug the gauges back in before you get all freaked out and start ripping more wiring.

Thanks for the comments. I actually went in for round 2 after work today, and a couple beers, and attached the heater/AC harness down low. Now it works like a charm! No problems w/gauges, nothing! It's funny..I don't know why that would affect the gauges down there, and even more, the heater harness I accidentally cut up seems to be working fine now after wrapping it up in a little electrical tape. That is, atleast for now. Anyways, more to come!
