Default Planning to build a little system for my car this summer..but i need help...plz

Ok heres the deal.
This summer i want to put a video system in my car.

I want the screen to go in cubby hole(i have an 03), and i am going to decide between 2 screens: farenheit 7000/7001..and...xenarc 700tsv.

I know they both fit well and the decision will be about how much money i have, cause touchscreen would be nice.

K now problems start. Gonna be looking for a new headunit but i have no clue which is good. I want it to play cds...mp3's...and possibly dvd's.
If the headunit doesn't play dvd's i was gonna look for a nice dvd player to pop into one of the mailbox slots. (Blaupunkt dvd me3 only 200).

So so far im looking for suggestions on headunits and dvd players...oh yeah links to company websites and stores to buy this stuff at cheapest price would be great.

Ok last thing. Probably this summer i will end up putting in a ps2 or an xbox.
And in future i want to put navigation in the car.

Does anybody know how much the navi would run me??

The other help i need with is the little things like power converters an fm mods. Stuff like that. i dont know what else i need other than screen, dvd, hu, and ps2.
Please let me know what i need.

And lastly how much would it run to get installed? because right now i am not thinking about doing this myself, but that could change.
If anybody know any good install shops in ny let me know.
And if anybody in Ny area would want to do this for me.. send me an offer.

Thanks for the help.

PM Nazar, I believe he's in your area. There's a few others too, just can't remember ATM.

HU - I'd suggest a double-din unit. Check out either the Kenwood 7015 or the Eclipse AVN5435. The difference is that the Eclipse has a built in NAV, the Kenwood is an add-on along with price. Seeing as how you want to add the NAV in the future, the Kenwood would be the best bet.

Wow, that's a lot of questions, but here is some info that I hope helps:

When looking at headunits, be sure you get one with auxilary inputs. This means you won't have to use one of those FM modulators to get your sound in from your external device(s). That will result in better quality sound, as FM isn't nearly as good as a direct input. My Alpine CDA-9835 has an auxilary audio input, for example. I run my PS2's audio outs into the 9835's aux audio inputs.

When it comes to nav, it will almost always be cheaper in the long run to get a headunit with built in nav, rather than a stand-alone nav unit. It really depends on your preference on how you want things to look, but from a pure price standpoint the integrated all-in-one headunits generally end up being cheaper. My two favorite all-in-one units right now are the Pioneer AVIC-N1 (single-din with slide out screen) and the Eclipse AVN5435 (double-din unit). Here are the links:

http://www.eclipse-web.com/avn/index.html
http://www.avic-n1.com/

I *believe* they both have auxiliary audio and video inputs, so that would let you hook up your game console as well. Be sure to double-check that, though, since I'm not sure.

If you do choose to go with all separate parts rather than an all-in-one unit, then check out my website for the equipment I chose. Remember that it'll cost quite a bit more. A good headunit (like my 9835) runs a few hundred used, or upwards or $400-$500 new. Fantastic headunit, both in quality and looks. My Alpine nav unit was about $1300 as a discounted "floor model" type of deal... it will be more expensive if new. I went with an Alpine screen so it would integrate with the nav, and that runs another $400+, depending on if you can find one used on Ebay or something. You can see this is quite a bit more expensive than a ~$1500 all-in-one unit. Prices will vary, of course, but this gives you an idea.

As far as playing DVDs, that will vary. The all-in-one units typically play them. If you go with separates remember that your game console can play them. So no need to buy a separate DVD player in addition to a game console.

Power converters are easy. You can pretty much use anything here, as long as it puts out the wattage necessary for your equipment. Check about any electronics store, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc. They generally always come with a cigarette lighter plug, but you can cut that off and hardwire them easily. Just be sure to hardware them to a switched power wire so they'll shut off when you turn the car off. Either that, or rig up a power switch where you can easily access it. Mine just comes on with the car so I never have to touch it. It's all hidden away.

Since you have an '03 model year, you have the best cubby hole design. '04 and up use a much smaller design that isn't easily modified to put screens in. The '03 models, though, are simple. The entire box assembly just unscrews from the door assembly, leaving you with a ton of room to work with. I retrofitted an '03 door onto my '04 car just for this purpose.

Then you can do just about any headunit you want, then. I really like the high end Alpine and Eclipse stuff. Great sound, with lots of tuning capability. (parametric EQs, time alignment, etc.) The 9835 is a great color match for the Z's interior, too.

As far as the screen for the cubby hole, there are quite a few that will fit, from 6.5" up to 7", for sure. Don't think bigger would fit. If you plan to do a hide-away nav unit later, then your choice of screen might make a difference. It's usually helpful to buy a screen made by the same manufacturer as the nav unit you plan to get. That way they can integrate together better. (Controls, IR receiver, etc.) That's why I got an Alpine screen rather than some of the less expensive options.
