Aftr a quick look, it appears to be a non-Excelon version of the 7015. That being said, i'd guess it lacks a few of the EQ features as well as the "In-Control" functionality of the 7015...
Looks like most of the other basic functionality is there though...

I spoke to a man at Kenwood (Nick /1-800-kenwood) directly about this matter before buying the DDX-6017.
The DDX-6017 is the 2005 model of the DDX-7015 so it is the newer model. (I would have assumed that the number would have gone up not down but he could not tell me why Kenwood numbered them this way)
He said that this is the non-Excelon model of the new DDX-8017 that will be released later this summer. It is identical to the Excelon DDX-8017 that will be released except that the DDX-8017 will have a removable monitor and this one doesn’t.
This unit only lacks one thing that the DDX-7015 has.
The main difference between the DDX-7015 and the DDX-6017:
Ignore my signature. You can’t change them any more unless you pay for the privilege.
My new Audio set up consists of:
- DDX-6017 2-DIN In-Dash 6.5" Touch Screen Monitor/Head Unit by Kenwood
- eXcelon KHD-CX910 Music Keg "20gigs of mp3's" by Kenwood
- eXcelon KAC-X541 Multi-Channel Power Amplifier by Kenwood
- eXcelon KAC-X811D Mono Power Amplifier by Kenwood
- eXcelon KFC-XW1025dB 10" Subwoofer (Dual Voice Coil) (x2) by Kenwood
- eXcelon KFC-XR601 6.5" speakers (x4) by Kenwood
- eXcelon KFC-XT14 200w Tweeter (x2) by Kenwood
- Sirius Satellite KTC-SR901 by Kenwood

- The DDX-7015 is compatible with the optional KDSP-901 Dolby processor unit but the 6017 is not. The 8017 will be compatible with this KDSP-901. You only need this to play 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound. Otherwise it plays in Stereo

The DDX8017 has a 5.1processor built into it. has all the features of the 25th KVT-915 and graphics. You just have to add a tuner--the kvt has one built into it. Kenwood rep said it would be about 2000.00 or 1800.00. Real nice--check out www.kenwoodusa.com

Here is the real story. The DDX6017 was never meant to be a regular line product. It was going to be a Best Buy exclusive. The reason for this is Best Buy saw how many of the DDX7015 Kenwood was selling and wanted in on some of the action. Since Best Buy is not an Excelon dealer they told Kenwood to make them a non Excelon version. Being Best Buy is so important as far as numbers go, Kenwood agreed to make them a unit only for them, no one else was going to have it. Someone di not do there homework and Best Buy found out after the fact that Kenwood started making these that there demo boards were not made to handle a double din unit, so rather than to modify there 100's of stores for one unit they told Kenwood thank you but no thank you. At the same time Kenwood was completley out of DDX7015 and dealers were complaining. So what Kenwood did was sell the hundreds of DDX6017 they had made for Best Buy and sold it to thier distribtuion centers and told there direct dealers they could buy these special units through distribution. The DDX6017 and DDX7015 are identical except that the DDX6017 in not Excelon which means it only has a one year warranty, it does not have A.M.S. and it will not control the KDSP901 5.1 processor. So basically the DDX6017 is a one shot deal. Now as far as the new unts there will be a non Excelon version and a Excelon version DDX7017 and the DDX8017. They will both have 5 volt preouts, 2 video inputs plus a dedicated rear camera input. The Excelon version will have 5.1 surround built in and the graphics are upgraded to look like the KVT915DVD. Both units should be here in July. Buy the way the DDX7017 will be silver and the DDX8017 will be gloss black. They also come with a new remote.

I asked the Kenwood rep last week, the DDX8017 will retail between 1800 to 2000.00
You can probalby get it online fro about 1300-1500.00. I think the Eclipse is still a better buy. Everything in one unit for 1800.00 .
