I've looked through the threads, but cannot find the answer to my question. I have the Bose system and I think it pumps out good bass, but the mid and high ranges suck. Is it the speakers or the head unit that are the weak link? I'm thinking it's the speakers.
The biggest influence on your sound is the speakers. I just replaced my rear three speakers - the subwoofer and the two rear "head rest" speakers. Big difference toward the better. The front speakers are still stock and they add the most to the mix - the midrange and tweeters are where the biggest part of the sound lies and I suspect that the stock ones suck.
I know that the stock woofer is rather lacking. The tiny amp isn't much of a help. It was labeled like 300 watts or something really outrageous - it might be good for 20-30 on a good day of true RMS distortion free watts.
Once my front speakers get removed when I work up the energy I'll pull the head end if the sound still suffers. I've got a four channel Kenwood and a two channel Zapco that might fit some where back aft.
