Default splicing speaker wire

Anyone know the best methods for extending heavy and medium gauge (12 - 16) speaker wire? shrink tubing, solder, butt crimps, or just the old twist and electrical tape?? I'm tying to keep the benefits of my original wire but have added new crossovers, eq, and new speaker locations so I need to extend the wire a few feet.
Thanks

Solder at least 1/8" from each end together (twist tightly first) and heatshrink ... good as gold

keep it a straight line though ... no 90* bend to twist

Great! thanks. I have been changing my setup so much. I almost pulled out the wiring to run it new again for the best fidelity, but what a waste of time. I haven't soldered in years so this will be fun.

p.s. I didn't foget about that Beer at Strauss'. I was able to find adhesive backed 2 mm and 3mm foam at a craft store. It was intended for kids projects, but will work great as a speaker gasket!
