Sub education please
Ok Im upgrading my stereo in the Z and here is what I have so far.
Alpine 9851 head unit
MB Quart 6 1/2 with 3/4" tweaters for all four speakers
Alpine Type R x 2 with understrut speaker box..thanks mike on ebay
Alpine Sirius satillite tuner
Ok this is where I get confused. I want an alpine amp(s). Now I want to power my subs seperately. I know that alpine has the 5 channel amps but i want something that will be easily stored in the compartments behind the seats, and the one 5 channel, i can imagine (though ive never seen) would be too big for this. Ok when they are talking about "channels" are they saying that each channel is designated to each speaker, i.e. 4 channel you can control each speaker with each channel? I know this is an idiot question but Im trying to see what would be the best plan for my alpine amp selection. So far this is what I have chosen however not purchased:
Alpine MRV-F345 - for my MB quart 6.5 and tweeters
Alpine MRD-M605 - Monosub for my two 10 " Alpine type R's
Can someone educate me? Most appreciative for any guidance. Sandy

yes, one channel per speaker and one for the sub. however, you could also look into a 4 channel and ditch the rear speakers. channel 1 and 2 for the front and bridge 3 and 4 for your sub. you get to save money twice. but since you'll have 2 subs, these won't work. best bet would be to buy 2 amps. one for your components and one for your subs. hope this helps.

Yeah its best to buy maybe a two channel amp for two subs, but I used to have 2 10's hooked up to a 4 channel amp, I just bridged channels 1 and 2 to sub 1 and channels 3 and 4 to sub 2. If you don't know how to bridge there should be something about it in your manual to which ever amp you get...

I have 2 amps both stored in the factory sub location. There is a huge amount of space back there. 1 (JL300/2) for the fronts & 1 (300/4) for rears + sub. Originally I was just using the 300/4 for all with the sub bridged & that workd fine but when I added the new HU's & rea speakers I went +1 on the amps. Much better sound now.
Even though most people (except me) do power there subs seperately (at least from what I've seen) I think your setup is fine and will produce good sound. I'm no expert by any means though (as others will confirm).

Good question. I know you can "bridge" a Sub to a 4 channel amp with 4 speakers so it would seem to me that you could bridge a second sub to a 1 channel amp. You really don't need a second sub in our cars though. I find that I need to keep the bass down on my setup & I only have 1 10". And I love bass.

just depends on what ohms the amp and the subs are but yes it is possible. go to rockford osgate.com and then go to the tech and subwoofer wiring diagrams it is very easily laid out.
