Crutchfield rocks!
So I went onto the crutchfield web site today and got some online help since i'm pretty audio dumb. Anyway I got an Alpine type r swr 1042D and an alpine mdr 301(350 watts rms at 2 ohms) for 267 vs 200 for the sub and 350 for the amp.
Crutchfield has fantastic customer service but you can find much cheaper prices elsewhere. Its always a trade off tho, knowing you will get what you pay for or take a risk on some online site/ebay.
I got my head unit from Ebay yesterday, the New clarion (don't remember the model number) but on Crutchfield they were asking $600 plus tax. I got it on ebay new for $375 including tax, shipping and insurance. Looks good but not installed yet...! I couldn't find any deals for speakers, but you can find amps for a good price. When shopping ebay, make sure they are a "power seller", have an ebay store, have sold alot of items and read the customer remarks. I used Audio saver on ebay and they definitely have great prices and the head unit appears brand new, in package, but let's see what happens when it is installed! I'll probably get my amps of ebay, but I can't find any deals on speakers so I will probably buy those from a shop where I get my sub woofer enclosure customed. I printed up pictures of some of the members set ups so I can get estimates! Love this web site.
I just got lucky w/ crutchfield....probably 98% of the time you can get it somewhere else cheaper than crutchfield. But in this case I did all the reasearch w/ "power sellers and ebay stores" and the cheapest they could get was 300. 267 vs 300 this was the other 2% of the time
