ALPINE GURU?.... Question for you!
Well actually, You don't even have to be an alpine guru to know this pretty simple question. My set up is like this. I have an alpine cda 9833 headunit and i just bought the type x components... Honestly, they don't sound very good at all. The midbass sucks, the highs however sound very good. I'm picking up a 4 channel alpine amp and running 2 channels to the front speakers and bridging the other two to the sub. The guys at Tweeter say once I get the amp powering those speakers it will sound like night and day difference. Is this so? or are the new Type x components just not very good?
i didnt like the sound of the type x at all
i like the type r sound 100 times more
more warmth to the sound ..
that is just me though... i thought the x had no bottom end ..

Okay i take what I said back... this sounds HORRIBLE. I can't believe that a high end alpine headunit and high end alpine speakers don't sound good. Like they really sound awful. They don't even sound as good as like a premium factory system in your luxury cars, they honestly don't sound much better than before i had the POS clarion non bose speakers... Whats the deal???
It will sound better with the amplifier(s). If you like loud bass, I'd recommend a separate amp to run just the subwoofers. I'd also throw in a 1 Farad cap. The amp on the Alpine head units aren't adequate enough to produce a clean sound. It also underpowered to push the mid-bass.
you said you had a 4 channel alpine amp?do you know how much power it's putting out?also you can do a thing called "bi-amping" basiclly your running all 4 channels to your front comp's alot more power going to them ..By the way.the type x's arent too bad,but for less money and way better mid bass type r's with the alum basket sound bad ***!!
i have the type x speakers running on a five channel amp with a center channel and it sounds amazing!! my old car and boston pros all through it and i like the alpines better. i guess it depends on the way everything is set. i will say that alpine amps are very hard to get set right, but when they are you will know it.

i have the alpine 9833 with infiniti components in the front, kappas in the back and an infiniti powered-subwoofer... all i can say is my car sounds as good if not better than some premium systems in my friends bimmers & infiniti's...
I had a set in my S2000, they sounded great using the factory amp, but when I added the V-12 amp and the CDA-7969 head unit, man it was AWESOME. If I put an Alpine system together, I will be adding type X components and Subs. ! I recommend it.
I had the same problem, but with a set of XR series JL Audios, not the Alpines. Adding the amp will definitely make a difference, but it's possible that you still might not like them. I was very unsatisfied with my XRs, so much so that I was looking for a replacement set of MB Quarts. Running off a Phoenix Gold amp (ZX450) that was sending about 18 watts to each of the mids and tweets, they sounded awful. I then switched the mids to another Phoenix Gold (ZX350), which was sending about 35 watts to each speaker, and it made a night and day difference. The mids in this setup obviously just needed more power to produce the bassy, fuller sound that I wanted. Your situation may be similar, so I would definitely try more power before looking to replace them. If you still don't like them, sell 'em, and get something different.
